I got a return for "wrong size or fit". I agreed to the refund, it arrived in a tyvek envelope. I sent it in PFRE, and it weighed 1-2 pounds. The return label says "Priority Mail Return Service" and "No postage necessary if mailed in the United States". I issued the refund, and it was only for the amount of the item, not original shipping.
Do you think ebay paid the return shipping or did they charge the buyer for it?
And wondering how much was paid for the postage--the amount I paid for s PFRE or the price of a 2 lb Priority package (not that it matters to me but just curious how they resolve that--it doesn't identify the type of package like it does on the labels we print).

You can purchase prepaid priority labels at the post office or online. That's probably what your buyer did even though it's supposed to be for flat rate. Wouldn't be the first time the P.O. let something like that go.

But I didn't think the label would say "return service", would it?

That's true. So, ebay or she did it from work? Why would ebay pay? Can't buyers print return labels on ebay and the money comes out of their own paypal account? I get upset when ebay pays for shipping but it's always a dispute situation. I've never seen it for a return for fit.

Here it is:
Who pays for return shipping?
It depends on the reason for the return and the seller's return policy. If the item is not as described, then the seller will pay for return shipping. In most other cases, you will pay for return shipping and any restocking fees if specified in the seller's return policy. If you're responsible for return shipping charges, we'll charge your PayPal account if the item is shipped with an eBay label. For more details, including approximate shipping costs, click here.

So that means the buyer's PayPal was charged for it.
Thanks for posting that.

Yes, that is how I would take it. It's nice to know that so we can help our buyers. Mine always seem to take it to the post office and the post office takes them to the cleaners, lol.

I've had a few (unfortunately) returns for fit lately with the new "No Postage Necessary if Mailed in the US" and it confused my post office on the first one and they tried to charge me postage due on it since it was stealth shipped. I *think* how it works is the buyer on a return for fit is charged the same postage that we actually paid to the PO on the way back, so in this case of PFE, they're only being charged $5.35 (if TRS).
ETA: I just had a buyer return a $14 dollar skirt and she paid 4.99 to get it to her and $5.35 to get it back to me. These returns baffle me, it's not the first time someone has almost spent more than they paid for the item to get it there and back to them.

I did a return through the process last week, it showed as "no postage necessary" when the label printed, and the charge for the postage was in my PayPal. I'd have to go back and look it up, but I think it was cheaper than how the seller probably shipped it to me to begin with.
