We talk a lot about search manipulation on eBay and how we often sell things in geographic clusters. My last 2 sales on Etsy were both to the city I live in, each in SE Portland. What in the world are the odds of that happening? Each was for a totally different product, a tee and a bandana. Just think it's weird!

I wonder about that. My stuff is in clusters too.
A while back, I sold a top to the same town (100 miles away) that I bought it in. It had a stain that I was able to get out. Wouldn't it be funny if they were looking to replace the stained one they had donated? I just sold a top this morning to Fair Oaks, about 75 miles away, which is next to the town I bought it. It's probably regional desirability, but you selling completely different items to your town is weird. Yay on the sales though.

They have some sort of scheme of showing local listings first, but that's pretty darned local! I send stuff all over and haven't noticed any particular locality, but then I have the usual oddball stuff on Etsy that I have everywhere else.

I've noticed that recently on eBay I'll have a couple for one state or all in one region. But 2 sales in a row for my city was pretty noteworthy. I do sell to Portland more often on Etsy than on eBay; maybe Etsy is more attracts more hipsters than the other.

That may be - so the 'local' thing just works differently. I don't sell a lot to Seattle, but Seattle ain't exactly the home of hipsters - tryhards, maybe, but not hipsters lol.
I sell a lot of stuff on Etsy to New York City.

Well New York is the home of Fabulous.
Just remembered - I sold a Vivienne Tam East Wind Code top to someone who lives on the bluff overlooking our bluff.
