Actually arrested with handcuffs and driven downtown in a police car.
Fingerprinted, mug shots, arraigned before a judge, bail set, the whole 9 yards.
That is how we handle felony arrests here.
I especially love that it was 2 days before Christmas.

The sad thing is, I bet he and his mother still think it's a big fuss over nothing. I'd seriously like to see him banned from ever owning another animal. Let him explain to his future wife and kiddies why they can't have a puppy. Or I know! An Animal Offenders list. So if one moves into your neighbourhood you can keep an eye on any pets they get. I have excellent ideas sometimes.

It really doesn't matter what they think.
It matters what the Grand Jury thought and what a jury will think if he is stupid enough to go to trial.

No, but don't you wish the penny would drop and mother and son would realise what bad people they are, and feel bad? If they never realise what they've done they'll spend the rest of their lives bitching to their (possibly equally horrible) friends and family about the "injustice" of it all.

Petti, I really don't care how they feel. I want a felony conviction on his record or a plea of Guilty to a felony on his record.
They can bitch to whoever they want to for as long as they want to but he will still be guilty and have a felony on his record. I am sure sooner or later they will feel bad about that if nothing else.
I can hardly wait to see him face the judge in court. She is going to nail his balls to the wall.

Since this is a newer law I hope they are wanting to make an example of him and set a strong precedence for a harsh sentence.

I have excellent ideas sometimes. Considering that serial killers often get their start as kids torturing animals, your idea isn't all that farfetched.

LOL The rescue just put this blasted out to the her followers. she knows that this jerk's mother is one of her "followers" so she just wanted to give her another poke in the eye.
"Got word from the prosecutor regarding KitKat. An indictment was issued the end of December with felony charges against Mr. Joe Lupardous. It has gone through the Grand Jury and is now in the 175th District Court. He is scheduled for trial on February 27th. So, now we can only hope to have some success in justice for KitKat!! It should be noted that resolution may happen prior to this - I will keep everyone posted.
I would also like to reconfirm that what I stated prior to this was absolutely the truth. Mr. Lupardous did in fact throw boiling hot water on KitKat causing severe burns on his side and leg. I hope this case will help other animals from having to go through these horrible situations when people find out that our judicial system will not tolerate animal abuse of any kind!!
KitKat has been readopted and is living with a very caring and loving man. Hopefully he will live "happily ever after!!" I have great hopes that the judicial system will now do what needs/should be done with the final stages of this case."

The rescue called me today about 3 blind cats at the City Shelter and while we were catching up, I asked about KitKat.
He was doing great in his last home but the guy had to move to Peru to take care of his ailing grandmother so the rescue took KitKat back last fall.
KitKat and another cat from the same rescue were then adopted by a great couple who adore KitKat so hopefully he has found finally his furever home.
The jerk guy has pleaded guilty to all charges concerning KitKat's abuse and will be in court on later this month for his sentencing. He is apparently living in Colorado and sentencing was previously postponed because of his relocation.
The rescue lady had literally kept this case on the front burner with the DA.'s office. She has tracked both him and his mother through their relocations and has kept their addresses updated with the court.

Crossing fingers and paws that the third time is the charm for kitkat. He deserves a good furever home.

The rescue thinks this one will stick.
The Peru guy was a good one too but the rescue had some concerns about KitKat being in Peru in case something happened to the guy. It would have been hard to rescue KitKat in that case and the guy agreed.
She said the guy was crying when he brought KitKat to her.

At least he had the decency to contact the rescue. He sounds like a good man, I hope another kitty finds him in Peru.

This rescue does an excellent job in building a relationship with her adopters especially with the ones who adopt cats who have a "history" like KitKat.
She does not hesitate to take her cats back for any reason. She remains the number one contact on each adopted cat's microchip so she is contacted first if a cat has a reason to be checked for a microchip. She has flown cats back from as far away as Oregon when the cat ended up in a shelter and she and the shelter couldn't contact the owner.

There's one lady with a special place waiting for her in Cat Heaven. Her cats are so lucky! It's like they get a lifetime guarantee of somewhere to live.

She can really be a bitch to deal with sometimes but her heart is with the cats.
I am waiting to see if she picks up the 3 blind cats at the city shelter. She is hesitant to do it because she is afraid nobody will adopt them.
I hadn't talked to her in almost a year but those cats are on her mind so she called me for my opinion. I told her I would always have her back with blind cats.
One of her Petsmarts has a playroom area within the caged area and I told her to take them there so people could see them playing and jumping around. She has never had blind cats so she doesn't realize how amazing they are.

Aww. Poor Kitkat. I hope this is it for him too. Peru guy was definitely a good one to be willing to upend his life to take care of his grandmother.

Apparently the Peru guy's mother and sister have jobs here and couldn't relocate but he can work by remote and his company said that he could do it from Peru.
