$20 item $7.10 shipping FRPE (I charge counter rate plus $1 handling).
Reasonable offer: $12. Unreasonable offer: $12, "free ship".
ie, 40% off vs a little over 75% off.
I'm a little irritable today. But really, $4.90 on a $20 item.

I don't think you're whacky. That would have irritated me, too. And I am usually very easygoing when it comes to offers. I probably would have accepted $12 but not with Free Shipping. What are they thinking? I just don't get people sometimes.

I think people are clueless about the real cost of shipping. Until I started selling I did not realize how expensive it actually is and that over 13oz you have to bump up to priority.
But YES I think that offer is out of line.

But YES I think that offer is out of line. Sometimes I think that there are sellers that are clueless about the real cost of shipping. Last night I was looking at a listing for a lightweight summer top with $11 for shipping. And the top was not listed at a cheap price either.

I would reply. Sorry but due to the weight of this item it is going to cost me more than $7 to ship it. I prefer not to give my items away. Thank you for the offer though.

That is totally unreasonable.
This is one of those "no thank you" responses I like to give.

I sent a counteroffer for $12, "no free shipping".
I doubt they'll accept, but I've had it for a while and it's one of those things that peeves me to no end every time I look at it..the kind of vintage 80s Disney everyone but me seems to be able to sell for big bucks.

Oh. betty, yes, you ARE wacky but that's what makes you so lovable! As to the offer, no, not in this lifetime. Donate the thing if you have to.
Meanwhile, I adore your avatar. I smell cookies when I look at it.

On items like that if I were to counter I would bump the price up and offer free shipping. If you counter with the shipping and the asshole buys it they will ding your shipping star.

I just can't even bring myself to respond to people who send offers like that. You are not being unreasonable betty.

I wouldn't even do 40% off. Maybe 10-20%.

That's why I use auto decline. I got this a couple of weeks ago:
Why do you allow the option to make offers but then decline all the offers outright? Then when i tried to make more offers from my grandmothers account because it had automatically declined my first three, it told me I wasn't allowed to purchase the item because I had 'bought two or more items from you in the past ten days' WHAT? WHY.
This was a vintage wool cape priced at $69.99 w/free shipping (it is QUITE heavy). Her offers were $20, $30, and $40. Auto accept was set at $55, it will cost at least $10-$15 to ship.
Btw I have no idea what she meant about the two or more items, the other id she used was a 0 feedback. I moved the cape to etsy for now although my sales there are pretty much nothing lately.

I got one yesterday that offered me $7 for a top that was listed for $ 12.50 w/ free shipping. I counter offered with $8.50 and explained that I can not sell for less because of the free shipping. She countered back with $7.77, saying that that was the price it was listed for when it was on sale this weekend, she just didn't get a chance to buy then. The only fact she had missed was, that is was on sale for $7.77 PLUS $3.95 shipping.
Also, I just don't feel like haggling over less than a dollar more, people like that are just wasting my time. It was 73 cents too much for her, so she didn't end up buying it!

I'm thinking her ISP addy is being picked up by ebay and the BO's are considered purchases. Didn't matter that it was two separate Id's.

That offer would really annoy me....I may be unreasonable, but even $12 plus shipping would make me hesitate. I think $15 or $16 on a $20 item would be more acceptable.

In any case I'm glad she couldn't purchase it, because from the tone of her message it wouldn't have gone well, lol.
