the chicken run with the chickens.
At least I can laugh at myself and I care enough about you all to share so you can laughat with me.
First thing is, my run is well built and very predator proof. No one can get in and, apparently, no one can get out.
Because my dog is OBSESSED with the chickens, I had to put a skirting around the run so she didnt destroy her paws clawing at the hardware cloth. I had to put some on the sliding door as well. Except it is corrugated and would pop away from the door when it was completely closed stopping it from opening again unless you pushed on the plastic. Which you have to do from the outside.
So I go in and shut the door behind me so the dogs dont get in. Do what i needed to do and went to open the door to go out. NOPE! And of course the lids are all locked FROM THE OUTSIDE. And my cell phone is out there. It is just me, the chickens and a screw. (seriously, a screw).
After about 5 minutes of contemplating and deciding if yelling would actually do me any good since everyone else was inside the house with the windows closed. I decided I had 2 options. Wait until someone noticed I was missing or figure out how to use the screw to get myself out. I was worried it would be hours before someone missed me.
The chickens, in the mean time, are having a blast crawling all over me and pecking at my purple toenails.
I finally figured out to put the screw fat end through the hardware cloth and try to grab the plastic and pull it back just enough to get the door open. It took several tries, OK like 5 minutes, but I did get it to work.
Needles to say, the problem is fixed so this wont happen to me again.
