I didn't take him in today. He's been doing so good on the pain pills that I'm letting him have this weekend. He even went outside for a bit. He's whacking me when I walk by, and he's in my face doing his head boink.
I know I have to Monday unless they say he can stay on the pain meds for a while. My main concern is that he doesn't experience a blockage. I'm prepared for Monday.

And thank you, everyone.
It's such a hard thing to do.

Sending more hugs your way. It's an incredibly hard thing to do, and in my experience you never know when is exactly the "right" time. I've had 3 cats euthanized -- one for cancer (after 6 mos. of aggressive radiation therapy), one for congestive heart failure that appeared suddenly (she was fine the day before but started breathing heavily one afternoon and crashed at the vet that night), and one for kidney failure (after a few months of a special diet, decreased appetite, vomiting and sub-Q fluids). It was never easy, but in each case I was OK when the time came. Sad as hell, yes, but also ready to say goodbye.
I hope you have a peaceful, loving weekend and make lots of happy memories.
