Tory, my little long hair orange gremlin has been sick. He's a spunky little guy.
His nose has sounded congested.heabeen on two separate antibiotics over the last month and a half. He gets better for a while then his nose starts bleeding a bit and he can't breath out of it. He's lost some weight.
We are here now waiting for the results of X-rays. My DH took him in yesterday and the vet said it felt like a mass in his stomach somewhere. Possibly lymphoma was a guess. Plus the nose thing.
DH took him in because I said I was going to have him put down today. He liked horrible yesterday and I can't stand the thought of him in pain. He's wrapped in a towel in my arms right now. Can't put him in a carrier because he gets scared and pees all over everything. He rides in an open box in my car. Really cute.
So. Waiting for results.

It's a tumor. Just looked at X-rays. I'm bringing him back Friday to take him out of this misery. He's coming home for a few days with some pain medication.

I'm so sorry Dantes. Tory sounds like a wonderful kitty. Glad he won't be in pain much longer but you have a chance to say goodbye properly.

Tory is the orange one. His brother, Simon, is the beige. I found both of them when they were really young feral kittens. They were hissy spitters. It was cute. The other one is Spencer. I did the trap and release with him. He was a hissy ready to scratch your eyes out mean cat. Gave him catnip and he started rolling on the ground and drooling everywhere. He walked in our house and never left. He's a total lover. He's been taking care of Tory.

I'm so sad.
He's sleeping. He's such a little gremlin. He would smack the other cats around and then would run if they'd try and do it back. Just like a little brother. I can't tell you how many times he'd sneak out of the house and I'd have to go hunt him down and rescue him. He'd get out and then get scared and stay in one place. It was the oddest thing.
He pretty much stays in the house now.
Looking at him now, he doesn't seem to be in pain. BUT the vet said he's a tough little guy and it does hurt him. She said it would be okay to wait a few days with the pain killers. DD and DH needed a chance to say good bye. Tory is a member of our family.

I know I have to do this Friday. The mass is growing and there's only a small amount of room in his intestines for food to pass. I don't want him to have a blockage.
I'm kind of struggling with this. I just keep crying on and off.

I think it's lymphoma. Not sure. I was so focused on looking at that large mass that I didn't think to ask. It's hard because he's acting healthy and eating well.
I'd like to let him go on with the pain pills but I don't want him to experience a blockage.

Dantes my cat Baby had a similar/different situation last year. The vet said that it was either IBD or Lymphoma. She was too sick to have an endoscopy to confirm either one. Her lymph nodes were inflamed on the ultrasound to the point that it appeared to be Lymphoma. She responded to treatment for IBD. It's a life long condition, but she's had a lot of good days.
Lymphoma is difficult, but there are treatments. Did your vet discuss any options? Do you have access to a specialty clinic (oncologist or internist?) or a veterinary hospital? If you can, I would really consider a second opinion. Different vets have different outlooks, and it's important to have one whose view matches yours.
There's an awesome Facebook group that might help. It's for IBD kitties but many of them also have Lymphoma. If you're on Facebook, search under groups for IBDKitties. If you can't find it, let me know. (You don't want the IBD Kitties Fan Page)

Rosegarden - the mass is huge. There's only a small space for the food to pass. It just takes over quite a bit in there. He's only around 7 pounds at this point. And there are either polyps or tumors in his nose. The antibiotics keeps the infection in check for a while, but it gets out of control again and his nose starts bleeding and he can't breathe through it. I also watched him struggle with a back leg prior to seeing this mass.
The pain killers are allowing him to act like he used to.
I'm comfortable with what they're suggesting. He was a feral and he's always been a bit on the sickly side. I had him at another vet about 5 years ago and they did extensive blood and other stuff and couldn't find anything. He would have never made it the first year outside if we hadn't found him.
My DH says - he's all feathers and no chicken.

I'm sure we're at the point of doing everything.
If I forced a surgery, it would be for me, not him. I don't think the vet would even want to do it.
I kind of want to wait until Monday. He had a great morning wanting to get into everything while I was making coffee. I use to get frustrated with him. Now I want to cry.

I just saw this - I'm so sorry, Dantes! Kritter is right, Tory is depending on you to do the right thing. The fact that he still has some spunk means that when he goes, he'll not have suffered too much, but walk on without pain.
This is so hard - I've been through this. Always remember the good times and what a GOOD life he had with you!
