I decided to try a few listings on Etsy. I'm writing up the listing for my Saks Fifth Avenue kimono robe from this thread . It wants to know: Who made it? and I chose "another company or person" What is it? and I chose "finished product" When was it made? If I choose 1997-1999, I get an error message saying I can't list a new item that isn't made by me. It allows it if I choose "before 1997". How do I know for sure when it was made? Is Etsy very strict about the timing? And why 1997 and not 1998 or 1996--any particular reason? I was just being cautious selecting 1997-1999 as it is probably sooner than that but that's a totally uneducated guess on my part. Thanks

In Etsyland, vintage = at least 20 years old. So 1996 and earlier qualifies. And no, they're not very strict about timing at all. Actually rather lax about it, sadly, which is why there's so much newer stuff being passed off as vintage by sellers who just don't know any better.

Well, I lied. It doesn't like my choice of "a finished product" for "what is it?". Is Etsy glitchy? It makes no sense as I am just selecting one of their drop down selections.
And when I clicked on the "Help" button, it warns me my stuff may not be saved and can be lost. Ugh.
ETA, I cleared all of the selections and started over and it worked find. I guess that answers the question about whether it's glitchy.

No idea, I haven't run into problems like that with Etsy (Ebay seems buggier!) Have you tried restarting your browser?

I haven't found Etsy glitchy and I list there a lot. As for the robe, I would not list that on Etsy unless I was certain it's at least 20 years old. Can you tell by the label? That style doesn't change much, and the labels don't tend to, either, but that doesn't mean it might not be helpful to check it.

Why would you want to list a contemporary item as vintage on etsy?
