I mail ties, scarves and bandanas all the time; each weighs between 2-4 oz. Thanks for posting this, I had no idea another increase was even being talked about.

It's getting ridiculous. THey need to drop the pension plan and go to a 401k like their competition.

They can't. They're legally mandated to PREFUND the damn thing because at some point the federal government thought it would be a great idea to handicap the postal service financially.
It's literally the only thing that keeps the USPS from being properly profitable.

Not that much of an increase, so it doesn't bother me.

It's literally the only thing that keeps the USPS from being properly profitable. Absolutely, but they can change to a new plan with new employees. It will take time to see the benefit, but it can happen. The military is doing it. No more automatic 50% retirement at 20 years. They're letting people that are halfway into their career opt in to what they want: the new plan or the old plan and those entering now will have to take the new plan. www.newmilitaryretirement.com/plan/comparing-the-current-military-retirement-plan-with-the-new-military-retirement-plan.shtml

It's literally the only thing that keeps the USPS from being properly profitable. I know that. The problem is they're too large now for the type plan they have, pre-funding or not. Probably what I should have said is close the current plan and convert to a 401k, that would be more accurate. But I agree that the prefunding rule is stupid. Congress doesn't prefund, their plan, so why make an exception for the USPS?
