Didn't want to bump the other thread since it was 3 pages - but did want to give a final update for those that followed our story. I lost a piece of my heart on Sunday. Lincoln's seizures & neurological symptoms continued to get worse, even with him heavily medicated, so it became time. He was surrounded by his entire family. I am unbelievably proud of the compassionate young women my daughters have become. They sat with me & held him/loved him right up until the end. We are all mourning, including Lucy our other dog (aka his girlfriend.) He was such a special dog with a huge presence - even through all the sickness & drugs he retained his sweet nature. I know we have so many animal lovers on this board - so sorry for making anyone sad. I do believe our pets are a special gift & all of the love more than makes up for the sadness. Love this pic of him - 80 lbs of fuzzy goofy love!

Oh I'm so sorry!! How sad I want to cry! He was obviously loved and had a great life though. I have a poodle mix also and he is basically my everything. I can't even imagine going through this.

(((Shop & family))) Lincoln was a rescue dog, right? What a wonderful life you gave to him. So sorry for your loss. Yes he was a rescue, horrible background - no real socialization when we got him. His personality was amazing - he was extremely good-natured & smart. We only had him for 4 years The vet thinks that he was older than what we were told. That's partly what made this so difficult. It's always hard, but our other dogs lived to be 13/14 yrs old - they had long full lives & he didn't. Gah - I have to stop yammering....

Shop - so sorry to hear this. But you gave him a great life and now he is free from any pain and discomfort. It's so hard, we have gone through it many times with our pets. It will take time, but little by little you will feel better - never forgetting, but being able to remember him without crying. ((((HUGS))))

Shop, I nearly didn't click on this thread because I didn't want to cry right at this moment. But no tears here.
You know why? Because of the love he had right up until the peaceful end, but more even for the four wonderful years he had with you. You took him from a horrible background and gave him those lovely years with a loving family who did everything right for him. Four years with him is a very short time to you, and my heart goes out to you - but four years is a loooong time for a dog. Bless you for making his last years so happy and letting him go when it was time.
Okay, mascara in danger, gotta stop NOW. (((Shop and family))) ***angel kisses for Lincoln***
