...what he almost tripped over as he was coming to pick up my packages: This big guy/gal slowly slithered away from the porch & up into one of the trees in our front yard. Walked away for a moment & couldn't find it again I may not walk around my yard under the trees for a very long time now!

Eeeek! Look how well it camouflages against the tree trunk! I'd be letting out some kind of very loud gasp or other girly noise if I almost tripped over THAT, lol! In what part of the country do you live shop?

Damn, I thought it was going to be a kitten on the front porch.
I would be letting out lots of noises, girly and otherwise, and would have been grabbing all kinds of large garden tools so send it to it's heavenly rewards.
I don't do snakes at all.

I thought it was a kitten delivery too! I dont mind most snakes, but do NOT like the idea of one up in a tree that could drop on my head at any moment.

In what part of the country do you live shop? My reaction exactly! I told him that the whole neighborhood would have heard me if I had almost tripped over it. I'm in AL. I don't mind snakes as long as I know they're not poisonous & they keep their distance. It's a rat snake - helps keep the rodent population down & we have all kinds of little critters/birds around here. We knew there were some around the house somewhere because we have found babies in the driveway before. This was the first time seeing mom/dad.

Ummmm, well... While I wouldn't mind a few one or two more - the rest of the gang around here might disagree

SW flies into Birmingham. Code BHM. Car rentals are fairly cheap too, unless it's a home sports game of some sort. /PSA

That would scare me. I probably would let out a girly shriek lol. I only saw a snake in nature (outside a pet store) once. It was in Florida and I thought it was a piece of tree of some kind of huge rubber piece of junk when I tripped on it. Yes, it was huge, black and it started to move and went into the water. I had kicked it. A woman told me it is poisonous. I did not go near that pond the rest of the trip

I had the the most coolest teacher ever in the 4th grade. His name was Mr. Kuppy and he was like a mountain man, he kept a pet boa constrictor in the class room named Julius Squeezer, we'd gather every week or so watch it eat mice. There were other critters and creatures in the class room too. Because of that experience only ones that bite or are poisonous terrify me.

I am not afraid of many things but petrified of snakes. That would keep me indoors!

"Julius Squeezer" is possibly the best snake name ever! And bravo to your teacher for exposing kids to nature in all its (sometimes gory) glory.

I've seen LOTS of snakes in my lifetime but only the poisonous kind. Dad was always killing the Eastern Browns in our backyard and sheds (one of the most poisonous snakes in the world) but don't tell anyone because it's now illegal. You have to ring the snake guy who captures it and re-homes it CLOSE BY. Because snakes get upset outside their territory. SMH.
Haven't ever seen a python except in a pet shop. If I'd ever had a barn I would have got a python for it, to eat the rats.

Geez thats a big one.
Copperheads are the most common here and they have a knack for getting into houses. We haven't had one in the house here although I did find a snake skin under the counter once, I assume he went out the way he came in because he was never found. Growing up as a kid we had a copperhead in our bedroom once and one in the kitchen as a teen, different houses each time. Gets your blood pumping that's for sure lol
The biggest and scariest one I ever saw was a timber rattler that was across a tiny backroad going to the lake once. That's the only one I've ever seen and it was massive, probably because I was a kid but I know the adults in the truck were equally impressed wth the size of it, especially how big around it was. No one volunteered to get out of the truck and move it along, we just waited for it to move.

No snakes in the house please! It's bad enough that I'm going to be walking around looking up in the trees.

While reading this thread, I jumped when I looked over and saw my computer cord on the table. Trying to decide if I should back out now or wait until my husband gets home and show him the photo just so I can see him scream like a girl?

Every time I see a snake, I think how Steve Irwin pronounced it "snike".

Easy solution. Get one of those umbrella hats and spray the top with silicone. If a snake falls out of a tree, it'll slide right off the hat.
