I usually file for an extension but I'm determined to get them done by April 15 this year.

I usually start doing them beginning of April. I wish I would just get it over with but I am a huge procrastinator. My receipts are in a huge mess inside my desk draw, I still have to sort everything. Every year I plan on keeping better track of everything so it will be easier at tax time, but a few months into the year it's just all in a pile again.

Mine aren't done or even on my radar right now. Usually my goal is to have them done by April 1 which means I spend the last week in march scrambling to get it all together. Sigh, I hate tax time but unless you're getting a refund... I think that's how most ppl feel.

DH has his own business and I have the honor of getting everything ready for the accountant. Plus now with the eBay stuff. I hate it with a passion.

I'm working on taxes today. Because, ya know, being stuck inside during a snowstorm just wasn't fun enough.
(Every year as I go through receipts, I tell myself I'm going to get a notebook and start tallying things up monthly instead of waiting until the end of the year. But do I ever listen to myself? Noooo....)

Compromise, ahrn. Sort your receipts during the year by expense type, and put them in the appropriate folder. Maybe circle the total so it's easier to see later. Then add up each folder at tax time. If all the receipts are sorted, adding up doesn't take all that much time.

I had to get mine done by the end of January for my Medicaid review. Why the heck they expect us to file early is beyond me. Maybe most people on Medicaid don't have a 1099? ? So every year I have to beg my accountant to rush them out.

I can see the light at the end of my tunnel. I just have to finish my milage and I am done. And I am not going to owe this year! Yea!!
Just a few things to round up for state taxes, like my 529 contrib.
With my refund we are paying off medical bills, getting my greenhouse and maybe, just maybe get a new couch. A cheap new couch. LOL

For the past 3 or 4 years I've taken a big chunk of $$$ and put it in a SEP IRA to save on taxes but things are too lean and it would leave me with too little in my savings so I'm either going to skip it or do much much less. I'll have to pay higher taxes but it is what it is

We get a refund most years because my income is about 1/10 of my husbands. We pay a LOT in taxes every year. Last year we owed. Mine are done and filed. We get a small refund. The new sofa is definitely in. Our couch was purchased used for $100 at a neighbors garage sale 7 years ago. It has given us its all. It is done.

*snort* I usually do mine the first weekend in October. The extension is good until 10/15 - why waste it? Ditto!

Oooooo I discovered today that sole prorprietors can sign up at EFTPS to make electronic tax payments! You sign up using your Social Security number, and once your registration is complete (PIN comes in the mail takes about a week), you can go online and make tax payments weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. Technically the IRS wants them quarterly (1040 ES payment) but I was curious if I could make them more often during the year. Oh say, when I had the $ available? And not wait for the quarter….at which time it's gone….
I don't know why none of us in the office never looked it up, but we didn't. So yay, I can pay as I go this year. Much, much better.

I downloaded a bunch of reports from PP this morning. This weeks goal is to tally up the sales and report my sales tax. A whopping $7.00 and some odd cents. I think I sell the least to my home state. Most sales are to CA. I wonder if I lived there if that would still be the case?
