It's 18° outside. That's it, I'm going to New Orleans. Happy Mardi Gras! Laissez les bons temps rouler!

It's paczki day here (pronounced poonch-key, 1st syllable rhymes with spoon) Everyone is going NUTS at the bakeries! They are like jelly doughnuts with powdered sugar coating.

We have them at work today. So good, and so glad it's once a year!

I like making beignets. The first time I tried them was in New Orleans and I was hooked. They're so easy to make.

Folks here are too wrapped up in the rodeo being in town to realize other things are going on.
Cool hat, ahrn.

Mmmm, I love beignets.
Packzi are pretty big in Pittsburgh, too. I had my first one recently but it wasn't very good (the filling was thick and sort of gummy). I think I need to find a better bakery today!

Years ago, I had a male friend ( not with benefits ) ask me to go to Brazil with him for the Carnival. He was paying for everything. Him and his wife just split up and he wanted to get away and have some fun. We were scheduled to go and then I met my husband. We had only been dating for a few weeks. He wasn't mad that I was going, but he did give me a choice. Basically said he didn't want to continue dating if I went. It wasn't a controlling thing, more like a matter of fact.
Obviously I didn't go. Best choice of my life. My friend Ray just recently got back together with his wife. We're all good friends.

They call the square donuts, Kinklings around here. A lot of the firehalls make them this week and sell them as fundraiser. Only once a year for Fat Tuesda/Mardi Gras.

Ok, you've inspired my dinner for tonight. I have a jambalaya rice mix and some kielbasa hanging around. And some red beans and onions. There you go. Now if one of y'all can bring by the beignets or those other tasty sounding doughnuts, we'd be all set! Happy Fat Tuesday indeed!

Beignets, ummmm, yummy! Dantes does your DH feel bad about it. It's one of my dreams to go! No. Neither of us feel bad. Actually we both just came out of relationships where the other person cheated. I understood it wasn't his values at that time. And I was a bit on the wild side. It's probably a good thing I didn't go. ha He took me to Hawaii not too long after we met. And we've traveled a bit together, but I've traveled more without him. My girls, friends, etc... He doesn't care where I go as long as I come back. And we don't have the trust issues that we had with former partners. I won't live with someone I can't trust and neither will he.

King Cakes are sold here, I never get one since DS10 is allergic to wheat. I guess I could make one. We are Catholic, (well, dh is more than I am, but that is a long story) and the kids announced today that LENT SUCKS. They wanted to know why today was called Fat Tuesday, so I told them, and that was their conclusion.
People here party hard downtown on 6th Street, which is the main entertainment district here. It can get a little raunchy, lots of beads for boobs, and that sort of stuff. There are also Cajun restaurants and lots of good food. We are pretty close to NOLA, and have many, many transplants that moved here after Katrina.

But there was something there between my husband and me. I could sense that he was a good guy (previous bad boy in a good way) and I wanted to take the time to see where it could lead. I think we dated about two years before we married.

Yesterday I was watching TV and they announced it was Fat Tuesday and I turned to my husband and said, "unfortunately it is Fat Tuesday for me every day!". I need to get moving.

LOL same thing that I was thinking yesterday but didn't say it out loud. Now that the cupcakes are gone from my freezer and my life, hopefully I will get back on track.
