"Have you ever missed out on an eBay item you loved because you were outbid in the final minutes? Announced today, eBay users will soon have the ability to opt-in to automated Facebook Messenger notifications thanks to a new integration between Facebook and eBay. When opted-in, eBay buyers will receive a Messenger reminder 15 minutes before a listing ends, as well as a Messenger notification if they are outbid in the final 15 minutes of an auction." www.ebayinc.com/stories/news/ebay-pilot-brings-automated-messaging-to-buyers-via-facebook-messenger/I guess anything helps! Makes me wonder if they're simply 5 years behind the times (how many items are actually auctions anymore?) or are they getting ready to put another push on auctions?

as a seller, i'll take anything.
as a buyer, it would annoy the bejezzus out of me. i cant imagine choosing to opt in. i get enough messages and notification etc---if i get one more happy hour bejewelled notification i will scream. the last thing i need is more ebay ones (i would STILL like to know why every stinkin ebay transaction seems to involve 43 messages--i dont need one for each tiny thing, and honestly, i dont need a "buyer declined" ding. i'm good with a single notification that something is paid for, along the ability to easily check my own sales history on mobile.)
but thats me.
