First, yes I need to get a real life! But in the meantime, here is my bird story. I mentioned yesterday in the daily chat that this bird was trying to get in my house. Then it pooped all over my car. Well I figured out or at least I think I did what is going on. We have a pond and over the pond is a small tree. Every year robins nest in it. Sometimes there are a few chicks at a time. The chicks keeps us up all night long chirping. If you think human babies are loud you should here these guys! It's usually the first sign of spring for us. So right on time one starts up last week. Waking me up all night! Well I didn't hear it the other night. I think it fell in our pond and drown. It has happened before.Sometimes the whole nest falls in. I think this bird thinks we have her baby or at least had a hand in its death! It is still trying to get in my deck sliding doors. I told my kids to watch letting the dog out that it doesn't fly in. It also is obsessed with my car which is around the corner from the deck. After giving it some thought, I feel sad for it. We have rescued babies of various species before from our pool and pond but I assume we are too late. I'm afraid to go look but my DH will go after work today and check out the pond. I find this whole thing fascinating. I can't believe that an average robin bird is that smart. Even though she is wrong. Here she is on my car

She is on a vendetta.
I don't have a bird problem here. My yards are a designated no-fly zone by the bird population.
Sadie sets up watch by the cat food bowls to grab any unsuspecting lunch guests. I think all the birds have moved on over to my neighbor's cat food bowls because her cat doesn't care if they eat her food or not.

That bird may be going after its own reflection in your sliding glass doors and car mirror. You could try putting a sock over the side view mirror (when you're not driving, LOL) to keep the bird away.

The tree that the nest is in is right near my dining room window. Here she is on the hood:

Nothing in the pond. We have woods in the backyard. I just saw a hawk invading a nest. It's possible someone took her baby.
It is sad.
My DH is getting mad though. It's getting his truck now and that is off limits to man or beast! LOL!

Yeah wish I could find an abandoned nest and give her a baby. I remember a story about a panda bear . They gave it a fake baby after hers was stillborn.
I still don't understand why our cars are her preferred target.

What brand is your car? Maybe it's a Daddy Robin and he's a Chevy guy and likes to crap on Ford or Dodge.

Awwww, poor birdy. The hawk probably did take the baby.
I'd be telling DH to man up. It's nature and we have to all live together. Unless he wants a concrete yard with no trees.

She is probably looking at her reflection and maybe thinking it is another Robin and going after what she thinks is a rival. I had a little sparrow sit on my side mirror for a few weeks in Spring, she eventually found something else to do. You can purchase fake eggs, I have a momma birdie sitting on 5 fake eggs right now. She doesn't know or doesn't care about the fake eggs. She and poppa just sit and sit on those eggs. After a period of time they give up then a week or so later they start laying again so I wash the eggs and start swapping them out again. Crazy birds.

Thanks Alli! Maybe I will try to find her nest.
She stopped by this morning and tried to get in the sliders.
Of course my kids want her as a new pet! LOL

Sounds like she's seeing her reflection. Robins are really territorial. One year, I had one fly into my front picture window over and over and over for weeks, fighting with her reflection. She finally quit but it was really getting annoying because the dogs would go ballistic every time she'd smack the window.

It could be. She really made a mess of my car. It is much worse now than the picture.
My dog can care less. But if it gets in the house I think he would freak!
Maybe I should put a small mirror out on my deck so she goes to that.

Sometimes birds fly into windows and glass doors because they see the reflection of the sky -- I don't think that's what's happening with your bird, but I thought I'd mention it. You can buy UV-coated decals to warn the birds (they work pretty well, I have some on the windows that face the bird feeders): www.duncraft.com/Window-Strike-SolutionsETA: Bird poop can really damage your car paint (it can be very acidic), so wash it off as soon as you can.

A few years ago we had a cardinal act like that. Our cars were in the garage but every time my son & daughter-in-law came over there'd be bird poop on the car door close to the side mirror. We were able to see him by slowly walking around from the other end of the car. We hung a little mirror in a nearby tree. It moved some with the wind and it must have scared him off.
I've also seen cardinals fly at windows because of reflections and once found a dead bird at my back door that had flown into the glass.

There was a woman at one job I worked at who parked her car in the same spot by the entrance in a good size parking lot. There was a cardinal that would be attacking her driver side mirror every time we went outside for a break. Bad enough it crapped all over, but she said it scraped the paint, too.
We have sparrows that have been nesting in the corner of our balcony for the past few years. I told DH to seal it so they couldn't nest, but apparently I have to remind him or take matters in my own hands. I've had a nice piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting and would love to clean the plastic furniture so we could actually enjoy it, but between the squirrels tearing up anything that can be torn up and the birds pooping all over, I can only wish the hawks would come back and clean up the neighborhood.

We thought she left. It was cold so she probably just nested. She's back!
I'm going to look for small mirrors today.
If bird doo doo is good luck I am about to hit the lottery! Oye Vey!

If bird poop is good luck, I would have won a lottery years ago. I worked at a warehouse and had just bought my brand new black Chrysler Laser and parked it by corner of the building. Came out to find my car literally covered in bird poop. It was embarrassing as heck to have to drive 15 miles home and have the displeasure of having to clean it off. I don't think I liked birds as much after that incident and that was late 80s.

I think the bird has to poo on YOU for it to be good luck. On your car it's just annoying.

FOUR times! I've been pooped on FOUR times. Once, I was holding an ice cream cone standing by a lake and the bird pooped on my hand that was holding the cone. So, not only did I get pooped on, but my ice cream got hit.

lol, Class. You should get extra luck if you lose your ice cream too.
I probably got hit 2-3 times as a child. Never as an adult...yet. I've probably jinxed myself now. It always landed on my clothes, thankfully, not my skin or (horrors!) hair.

As much as I get pooped on just inside my house I should have awesome luck, lol. It happens at least 3 or 4 times a day.

Yes, but yours are probably sitting on you at the time. Getting pooed on by a flying bird, that's bizarre. And usually big and wet, whereas I imagine your birds do small dryish ones.
Ick in either case.
Jelly, how's the poor mummy bird?
