I'm lost. The female lead in the book is in her 40's but the actress in the movie is in her 20's? I was saying that the author was in her 40's, perhaps early 50's. I thought that the primary BOOK marketing was to women in their 40's/50's. I feel like the movie does skew younger. But yeah, the lead female in the books is young. The other major criticism abt this book & Secretary the movie & many others is this needing to put in a mental issue or trauma as a justification for why they are into kink. It can't be simply what it is IRL, that some people are just wired this way. In order to make it palatable for the masses, it seems there is a need to portray it as a paraphilia that is the result of some traumatic event or abuse.
Not that that's bad from a story development POV. Can make it more interesting :-)

Didn't read the book(s). Not really something that interests me. I stick my trash reading to articles on composting. LOL

Didn't read the books and won't, but I know the whole story. I was visiting with my sister-in-law a year or so ago and she asked me if I read them. Told her no and when she offered them to me, I told her I had zero interest. She then proceeded to give me a 45-minute synopsis. Seriously?

I read them. By the middle of the second book I was like "he needs to get some new tricks"!! I actually became more involved in the story of what was going to happen to them rather than the sex scenes!

Derby, that is exactly how I felt in the second book. And I feel exactly the same for the third book. I'm 35% done with it now. I just want to know how all the "other stuff" unfolds.

That's what I want to know? Someone already gave me a three sentence spoiler but not much detail. But when you are done Liz maybe you can share? I think the movie is going to be broken up into 3 movies like the books. I do have to laugh about how the news was going on about the merchandise sales? One could only imagine!

"She's in her 40's, maybe 50. Same as her target audience."
I really think the target audience is 20 year olds. Although, I have friends who loved the books who are in their 40s and 50s, but I feel like the general appeal is to a younger, less experienced reader. I love to read and will read most anything with the exception of pure romance novels and think that (and the fact that they were so poorly written)is why I did not care for them.
