Apparently mother sheep get very upset and can die if their only lamb dies or is born dead. What the shepherds used to do is take a lamb from another sheep who had too many, tie on the skin of the dead lamb and give it to the bereaved mother to feed and look after. By the time the dead lamb's skin has to come off the mother has bonded with the new lamb and everyone's happy. Especially the "adopted" lamb because it gets all its mother's milk, not just a one-third share, lol.

But I think baby cows are cuter, as far as baby livestock goes. They're real little sweeties.
