Just got this email from Olive's mom. Olive has been on different meds for the last 6 weeks for sores and scabs around her mouth and head. She went to the feline specialist here this afternoon and I just got this email.
"Olive needs all the CCL prayers! I took her this afternoon, he is keeping her overnight and is doing a biopsy on her sores and scabs tomorrow morning and we will bring her home tomorrow afternoon. After hearing that we have been trying to help her for 6 weeks now and it is not going away he is suspecting “auto immune disease” but the biopsy will tell him for sure. I don’t know anything about this disease but it doesn’t sound good – going to go now and read up on it – hopefully we can help her!!"

She is added to the kitty prayers here too.
One thing for sure, she is in very good hands with this vet.

As soon as I hear anything, I will post how she is doing. Probably won't hear anything until tomorrow afternoon.
Thank you for keeping her in your CCL thoughts and prayers.

So sorry about Olive - hope it goes well!
What is CCL? I see that on the board and know it has to do with cats, but never found out exactly what it meant.

But you don't have to be a CCL to keep Olive in your thoughts.
She had been through so much, found the purrfect home, and now another hurdle for her.

Another email from Olive's Mom....I told her I had alerted the CCLs. "Thank you! Thank you! I am so glad too I had the good sense (and your advice) this morning at 8:00 to call him and luckily he had a 4:30 opening, otherwise I might still be farting around with my local vet. I have been reading on what he thought it was “pemphigus”… and he is so on, first thing to do is a biopsy and he is on that one! If it is for sure that she will be on an immunosuppressive drug (Prednisone) properly for life. Hopefully not critical because as you know I didn’t want this black cat and now I have fallen in love with my Olive…..I was crying on the ride home without her…will be rough sleeping tonight without her in my bed by my side!! Will let you know tomorrow as soon as I know! And thank the sweet/dear CCL." ***When they came to see Bella at the adoption event, Donna didn't really want a black cat but her husband didn't think that Olive and Bella should be separated so he adopted Olive as "his" cat. I think we all can see that Olive worked her magic plus her sewing skills to win over Donna in a big way.

I'm so glad she is keeping us updated.
Hope he can nail it down for sure, and having to take meds for life isn't that bad in the scheme of things.

All of our fingers toes and paws crossed here. And kitties have been instructed to say their kitty prayers which are very powerful.

Kitty prayers are very powerful.
They go directly to the Cat Gods who move in mysterious ways.

OK. I'm officially spooked. My two were lying here on their desk blankets and I told them what was going on with Olive. They both started purring. I wasn't even petting them.

Sabrina probably told Trixie about Olive and then it came up in conversation between Hootie and Trixie while you were at work.
Give my Trixie a pet from me. Sabrina and I always say good night to her when we shut off the lights.

Poor Olive. Do you remember how old she is, Kritter?
Sending good thoughts and healing vibes from me and 4.5 cats.
I know how Donna feels, I hate it when one of them's away from home.

I don't remember for sure how old Olive is and I don't have their paperwork anymore but I think they said she was 7 years old.
I know that Savannah and Sabrina are 12 now and Kenya is 5 years old and that I had fosters that were 7 years old so that must be Olive and Bella.

Just got an email from Olive's Mom...
"Olive just got home and is doing good. Drank water “forever” at the bathroom sink and now is chatting with the birds by her favorite spot at the window.
Doc gave her an injection of a long acting pain medication (lasts 3 days). The pathology report will be ready in 3-5 days. Doc says the stitches will dissolve on their own and she should be eating well today or for sure by tomorrow. So now it is a wait and see!"

I don't think so since they may have taken the samples from her face since that was where the sores were.
I emailed Donna for more details. She has gone to the store to stock up on peanut butter because that is what she said they will be eating after getting the treatment bill.
I have a feeling that I am going to feel the same sticker shock after I take Kenya on Thursday.

Another Olive update.....
"He cut her on the back inner side of the left leg. That is where the sores were that were not healing. I don’t know if he took scrapings from the face (I sure hope so) because those are different looking. In another words face is scabs – legs were open sores not healing. She was just laying in her bed here on the computer desk so I got a picture of her, I rubbed her face and you can see how the scabs are dry and flake off. He was more concerned with the open sores on her leg then her face scabs.
She is drinking a lot of water and eating real good but seems a little apprehensive like maybe she thinks I am going to grab her again and throw her in a cage. Poor girl…I am hoping a good nights sleep with me in our bed will help.
Poor….Poor Kenya, that is horrible that somebody would “dump” her rather than help her! Sometimes I just hate humans!!!!! Up the EBay sales/garage sales all good ideas. I told Olive after 3 days when her pain meds wear off she is hitting the sewing machine again to make items to sell to pay her vet bills! LOL"

I hope those wounds on her leg aren't cancer. They say the most obvious sign of cancer is that it won't heal.
Mind you, they might just be taking a long time. Bubby had a wound on her face that took 6 months to heal. It would have healed more quickly if she hadn't kept ripping the scab off. She'd had other grooming wounds (though this one started from a fight with Stray Cat) so it never occurred to me to take her to the vet. I used to use cat ointment the vet had given me before, and gently massaged around the edge whenever I could, at least once a day, to help the circulation. The fur has a little ridge in it now but otherwise you can't tell. But if it hadn't been shrinking and regularly scabbing I would have been worried.
Poor Olive, I hope Donna updates as soon as she gets the results.

Update from Donna about Olive.
"Well Dr. N called me about 7 o’clock tonight and said it is confirmed Olive has Pemphigus. We are to go and get her pills tomorrow from him that she will take for a month and then he will re-check her and see where we go from there. The meds he is giving her now for a month are very strong as he wants to hit this hard and after that he will reduce or adjust meds as necessary. He said she should start improving in about 2 weeks."
