I was approved on Amazon about a year ago in the apparel category. When I found out that I had gotten approved I was so excited, I had wanted to sell there for a long time but they were not allowing new sellers (in apparel). It started out pretty darn good, the prices you get for items are extremely good! The same RL cable sweaters that I cannot seem to move @ 29.99 free ship on Ebay easily sold for $85 there.
After a few sales started rolling in, quite often I would get messages from buyers that they didn't receive their items (they know the system very well) so I started having to add siggy confirmation on everything that I shipped out because it was well known on the boards over there that if you don't have a signature Amazon won't stand behind you. This was pretty costly but if I would have stuck to that plan I may still be selling there. Anyway, I decided that I would start sending all of my stuff to FBA and let them deal with it. BIG MISTAKE. FBA allows free shipping both ways so it is very convenient for someone to borrow your item for 3 months and return it (that actually happened). The one that still haunts me is the $168 Equipment Femme shirt that came back not fit to sell so I had them go ahead and ship it back to me only to find that it was a totally different shirt in used condition. They did refund me for that when I squawked. They also lost several items of mine in which I was reimbursed for and rightfully so.
So this went on for several months and then I started getting these policy warnings on my photos from the big dogs, seller preformance. I called customer support and emailed the seller performance team countless times asking for help as to which photos were in violation. No reponse. I then went to the Amazon boards and it seemed to be a well known fact that Amazon thinks that you must figure it out on your own so I ended up having almost all of my items shipped back to me, on my dime so that I could retake photos. Well, it never got to that point because I woke up to an indefinite restriction on my selling account. I was crushed but at the same time, it was a relief. I had pulled almost every listing when they were shipped back but left a few pictures that were in violation, I guess. One was a men's dress shirt that was a folded up view and not the entire shirt. This is so ironic because Amazon sells the same picture view! Another was a pair of socks that did not capture the entire sock. Bottom line in my opinion is that Amazon wanted me gone. I know that my photos are not perfect but when I thumb through the photos of some sellers there that get away with it, it's a no brainer. I was probably not pulling in the numbers that they wanted and then having to reimburse me for their mistakes on top of that. I sold there for not quite a year and recieved 5 (not a typo) feedbacks for over 400 transactions, all being positive. Just my 2 cents on Amazon. I know that there are a lot of sellers over there that absolutely love FBA and it works for them, but for me, it was a really bad nightmare.
