So I got a visit from the RSPCA (like ASPCA I think).
The guy had ventured all round my house before he knocked, because his first knock was on the back door. I'd been reported as having "cats in poor condition". I had to give him all their names, ages and sexes and whether they were desexed or not. He said he'd seen Lamington scaling the fence out the back, and that if he could do that at 11 he must be in good shape.
Bubby was sleeping in a box in the lounge room so I dragged her out for him to look at, before she turned into a scratching whirlygig and escaped me. He said she looked all right too. I said, Oh yes, there's a stray too, but he looks all right. He said I'm not responsible for strays. (I wish he'd tell that to the neighbours.) He didn't bother asking to see the other two cats. He said, You know how it is, we get one side of a story and then have to check the other. I said, Of course, no problem and I was sorry his time had been wasted.
Soooo - was this a farewell gift from the guy who's just sold his house? Or has the lawn-obsessive on the corner finally snapped?
I'm not very annoyed, but I'm a LITTLE BIT annoyed because I'd been on the phone to internet tech support for 90 minutes (not including hold time) and had to hang up to talk to the RSPCA guy.
So, grrrr.

You're a better woman than me. I'd be VERY annoyed, even if I hadn't wasted the 90 minutes on hold. Cannot believe someone reported you!

Yes, that is annoying.
Could it be possible that someone saw a stray that was actually in poor condition and assumed it was yours because you have other cats? I know people are fairly presumptuous when it comes to animals. Twice I was told my cat was outside (he does not go out at all) and come take him and both times they were not mine! I only have the one cat. It seems everyone on the block who doesn't have a cat assumes all cats are mine simply because they found out I had one LOL
I only have him anyway because someone dumped him in my yard and he was old, fat and without claws so I felt bad and took him to the vet and posted signs. Of course no one came to get him and he is doing fine despite my allergies =p

People would find strays and bring them to my door thinking they were mine. That's how Cleo and Wolfie became my companions. Or they'd accuse one of my neutered males of impregnating their non spayed female.
Sorry you had this issue Missp. Hopefully it'll be the last time since the cat hating douche is moving.

Sheesh, that jerk can't move fast enough.
I would be sorely tempted to ring his bell and have a little discussion with him.
Makes me glad I live in a fairly pet friendly neighborhood with several of the neighbors having cats of their own.

Oh yeah, I know that tune well. First they assumed the black and white stray tomcat was mine, then said, Oh well, he's your responsibility because you're feeding him. (I'd never said I was feeding him.) Any scratches on their cars, pee on their doors, poo in their yards, are due to my cats. Because, you know, I own the ONLY cats in the district. I strongly suspect #4 though (the guy who's moving) because he threatened to call the RSPCA in his "anonymous", two-page, insane letter to me. Mind you, that letter was about a year ago. Their next port of call is the local Council, so I won't be surprised if they visit soon. The only thing they can get me for is the cats not wearing collars, and I don't think there's a fine for that. I'll explain about the flea allergy and hopefully they won't make me get a vet's letter. Clean, how good of you to take in a fat, old, declawed puddy tat! He sounds gorgeous, where are the pics? lol.

I would be beside myself with anger if one of my neighbors pulled that crap.
Retaliation would probably be at the top of the agenda.

I have him a couple of years and he has lost weight and is healthier and shinier than he was when he found me. He is extremely shy and I am still the only one he will permit to touch him. I think he might have been abused at some point. He is afraid of everything.

I may never own anything but black cats for the rest of my life because they are so awesome! Well, so are orange ones and gray ones and tabby ones......
Sorry you had to deal with the RSPCA but I am glad they are checking just in case.

Gorgeous cat, clean! This is the one with the "twin" who was on your patio wanting to come in one day, right?

Sorry you had to deal with the RSPCA but I am glad they are checking just in case. Mup, I'm glad they check too, but I'm cranky that people would make them go to the trouble for a false report. They're overstretched as it is, and there are plenty of cases of neglect and cruelty out there to be investigated. They don't have the time or money to be pulled into neighbourhood wrangles. And it was such a STUPID report - "cats in poor condition". I mean, the guy turns up, looks at the cats, goes away knowing some vindictive creep has just wasted his valuable time. What actual harm was it meant to do me? The cats themselves were going to prove the report wrong. I mean, when Lamington's got his full coat in winter it actually glitters in the sun. Kritter, my soul sister, I like revenge too. But I refrain from it when it could cause retaliatory action against my loved ones. Gotta protect da puddy tats. However, if I see jerk-face I might well Say Something. Clean, Sir-Cries-A-Lot is very handsome. If I ever get another cat I think I'll try for a black one.

Val - Yes, and as it turns out there are 4 in total. The window one that I grabbed and dragged into my house because I thought is was mine and it wasn't LOL. He looked at me really weird and he was dirty probably a stray, he smelled too, I was shocked and so was he! Then there is one that lives someplace around here but they must let him out and he is clean but a really close match. The last one is lighter and smaller (female) so she is easy to tell once up close.
MissPettigrew - Yes, people are really nasty sometimes. Could be a local cat-hater that just wanted to stir up trouble for some poor cats and the people who love them. People with too much time on their hands..... ugh. I have matured, but you would think cat-shit in the mailbox would send a message. Unfortunately, we are adults so we can't think like that.
