www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2015/12/1449524916.htmlThe comments are spot on. Further proof the higher ups at ebay have no clue what's going on. Bad enough sales stink, last article was how Wenig wants even more Chinese sellers, what used to be a great community of various discussion boards that was destroyed and what little is left is censored by Lithium, it wasn't punishment enough to have DSRs so the "defect" system was implemented, listing doesn't even guarantee your items will be visible and now ebay wants sellers to volunteer their time to teach competition how to sell. Yee haw, let me get right on that.

How can they think this would actually be a good idea to experienced sellers? Why would a seller train a new seller who is a complete stranger to compete against them? When donkeys fly, Ebay!

I'm gonna chuckle about this all day, lol; thought it was a joke until I read the article and comments. Mentor my competition? Teehee. They're smokin' something good in corporate!

They seem to be under the illusion that we are all just one big happy family.
I am glad I sold my stock in this company a long time ago.

They had it until they killed the boards over there anyway. New sellers got several different opinions from sellers like each of us. eBay put a stop to it. Would they censor the mentoring and not for nothing, but whats in it for the mentor?
Um, no thanks eBay, why don't they send their own team to fly over to China and mentor them by themselves!

Unfortunately, there are those who will sign up for this. They will create their own competition.
I feel for all of you full time sellers trying to wade through all this carp ebay throws at you.

I agree with Clean. THe old boards were a perfect place for new sellers to go and learn for free. Then eBay killed them when Lithium was hired.
On top of that, there's a difference between mentoring and teaching. At least there is to me. If a new seller has taken the initiative to check out the basic selling info that eBay offers on the site, and has questions, I'm happy to help that seller. Better quality sellers means happier buyers for all of us. To me, helping someone with details and advanced skills, who has done the basics themself, is mentoring.
Taking someone who can't even be bothered to read the basic tutorials on the site and showing them how to sell from scratch? Spoon feeding them? That's teaching, and I expect to be paid for it.

DITTO DITTO DITTO what Val said.
I'm still so confused as to why eBay let Lithium kill their boards. That was the BEST resource out there for this kind of stuff.

Lithium was probably the lowest bidder and Live World's contract was up. Donohoe only saw the bottom line, and he only knows how to recognize pennies.

I worked for a computer company from 1999-2001 and they kept asking me to teach a class on "how to sell on ebay" as I was part time at the computer company and full time ebayer at that point. I refused repeatedly because there was no way that was I training my competition especially locally. There were no other sellers at the company so there thankfully was never a class, I didn't mean to be selfish but I had a good thing going and didn't want to share.
I can see answering a specific question that maybe isn't spelled out clearly or something like that and you can tell the seller has done his homework and just cannot find the answer. But not from ground up.

Yeah, my jaw dropped a bit after a Blue asked for input on the PSB earlier this week. I was like, AYFKM? I spent an entire month researching/reading everything I could get my hands on before I felt confident enough to list 2 items.
The rest is history...

Know how badly they hacked up the CAB? Today there are a grand total of 22 pages on that board and they go back to 5/3/15. If you go to the 'archives', everything between when liveworld stopped 12/31/13 and 5/3/15 is totally gone. No posts whatsoever (not that anything important was there but - how do you just slash and burn everything?)
The liveworld archives are down to 111 pages - and, get this, they have a grand total of 6 posts made by me, 5 in 2013 and 1 in 2010. MIND YOU, before lithium came on I had either 17,000 or 19,000 posts to all the boards - and more than 6 were made to the CAB.
They just hacked EVERYTHING. It may be history but history got totally wiped out.

I spent an entire month researching/reading everything I could get my hands on before I felt confident enough to list 2 items. The rest is history... I agree. I signed up and purchased stuff on eBay for about 3 weeks before I did anything. I wanted to see it from a buyers perspective. I wanted to know what they would see/get from me as a seller. I had one seller I loved - I made her my virtual mentor. She was awesome and I learned a lot from just watching her. I also read all the selling tutorials that eBay had on the site. Why should I mentor someone who won't do at least part of what I did on their own?

Maybe eBay can get their legion of Chinese Sellers to help.

And another one gone and another one gone, another one bites the dust "Hi Everyone, We truly value the feedback you’ve provided around this idea. It’s clear that we need to reconsider the concept of the program, and we’ll be holding off on pursuing it further at this time. We also recognize that mentorship happens organically on the discussion boards, as well as face-to-face through events like our ebay meet ups. For now, we’ll consider focusing our efforts on encouraging and enabling mentorship through those venues. Wow! Ebay actually considers seller's feedback! I'm in shock. Too bad they can't do that about a myriad of other issues with the site. Had they done it years ago, they may not be in the boat they're in. That we're all in :-(.

Wenig seems to be very different from Donohoe (thank gawd). Not different enough, however, when it comes to whoring for Chinese business, but that's the topic on the board under this one.

I just wonder how many people at ebay thought this was actually a good idea to even try to implement it. That's the sad part that whoever came up with the idea wasn't immediately laughed to scorn.
