My husband's company announced they are extending parental leave in 2016. Before mom took 6-12 weeks off under short term disability. Dad's didn't get any leave other than taking vacation.
Now mom's get 6-12 weeks off paid in full and dads can have 2 weeks off paid at 100%.
I am glad this now seems to be a trend. Families are important for workers.

Except not important for ebay sellers. We can't even get sick.

Sure you can. You just need to treat eBay like any other business and have a backup plan in place.

Well don't be surprised when fees go up. Those perks cost the company money and do you think they're going to pay it? No I don't think so.

I agree Val. But I'm sure that people who think 6 mos leave for moms and 3 mos leave for dads is a great idea will be the first to complain when fees go up. I don't have any problem with 3 mos for moms and a couple of weeks for dads, but personally, I think 6 mos/3 mos is a bit much. And believe me, I think parents are the best ones to raise their children (at least most parents are).
Next thing you know, people will be protesting in the streets because their company doesn't give the same maternity leave. Not all companies can shoulder this kind of perk.

IIRC, most European and many Asian companies do. THe US is one of the few first world countries that does NOT offer those bennies to the bulk of the working population. In the overall world view, based on other counties, our benefits suck.

I realize that about Europe and Asia. I just hope our government doesn't get involved and mandate it.
