I'll admit it. I'm not tech savy. I'm not great at photo editing. And I'm a creature of habit!
My lap top has been nagging me to upgrade free to windows 10. So I did it. Yesterday was the first time I checked out my stored pictures or tried to download new pictures and edit them. Everything and I mean everything has changed - and not for the better.
So I downloaded Picasa3 and did some editing there. After saving the edited pictures about 50% get an error message on eBay. It just says error but no specific reason.
Sooo Costco has Potoshop Elements 14 on sale for 39. Out of stock of course.
I could scream.
I wish some of my eBay photo experts were here to hold my hand during my crisis. LOL
I know it will be ok but dang.

Down girl, ebay has a pic problem today.
And a month or two ago, I posted a link with instructions on how to 'recuperate' from a win10 install. Maybe that'll help

My computer is nagging me too about installing Windows 10 but I am just ignoring it.
I am just fine with Windows 7, thank you very much.

My husband installed it. His start button disappeared one day (or whatever 10 has that is like it). He called MS and they wanted $$$ to help him. Ummm no...
He reinstalled 10 and got his start button back.

Heck I barely switched to Win 7.
I'm going to stick with that until they stop supporting it.

Microsoft announced sales of Win 7 will be ended next year (as in supplies to 3rd parties). It appears the adoption of Win 10 has not been as quick as they'd hoped.
There is one big problem MS didn't address, even with Win 10.
Business users.
There is a learning curve going to Win 10. Take that time x thousands of employees and you just incurred some major labor costs.
In my world, the older tax products won't work on Win 10. When you need to prepare at 2003 tax return, you need the 2003 tax software. Other businesses with industry specific software have the same problem.
Microsoft needs to hire some OLDER programmers who realize that the PC world is not made up of just gamers and facebook users.

Words of genius. Every time I start yearning for a tablet or a smartphone I am reminded that I wouldn't even use half the stuff on there. I need a workhorse, not a toy. These people really need to grow up and see the real world.

AFA older software - there are virtual machines you can run, like you can have a windows 10 installation and within that you have the option to run a 'virtual computer' in another version of whatever operating system and then run programs designed for that particular operating system. I use a virtual machine in linux so that I can run the stamps.com and turbolister programs which are windows only programs. I have an old XP install going on the same time as linux and can just switch between 'em by clicking on the window. You can go in either direction as far as versions of operating systems goes. And there are free and commercial versions of virtualization software; I use virtualbox which is free and open source but there are others www.maketecheasier.com/4-free-virtualization-software-solutions-for-windows/

I dunno, unknown. Most accounting offices are networked and the professional tax software programs are memory hogs. And most have software going back years. We have it back to 1998 in my office. I'm working on some 2004, 2007 and 2008 returns (different clients). I know the vitutal software for Mac sucks and many of the current windows products don't run very well on it. OTOH, if it's running on Windows maybe it works better.

I'm going to look into it for my father. Although he's 91, he still handles the financials and mailing list for his local American Legion post. They've been struggling lately with an XP machine at the Legion that won't run the new Quicken that my Dad is working with at home, but has some sort of software that they use for the mailing list that will only run on XP. It's a long, convoluted story which I don't completely understand, but this might be the answer for him. I get so frustrated because this stuff causes him a lot of stress that he certainly doesn't need at his age and there are no younger members joining, so there's no one to relieve him of his responsibilities.

All kinda businesses are using stuff like that and regular people are playing with it when new versions of windows comes out and they dunno if they wanna switch, some people want to run really old games, or people like me who don't wanna run the operating system but want some programs to run. All kinda reasons. And you can just delete it and EVERYTHING is gone; it stays in it's own 'container' kinda thing, doesn't go all over the place. I setup a 10 gig 'container' for my XP just cause someone told me to pick that size; don't need anywhere near that size, really. I allocated a whole 192 megs of ram to it and XP and turbolister and stamps.com (gimp and all the regular windows programs are there, so's firefox) run great. I had a guy from stamps.com remotely log in to my stamps.com/XP software a while back and HE was impressed at how quickly and smoothly it ran. It shares my online connection too with no problem.
