I am just getting ready to list an adorable Marc Jacobs pencil skirt. It was always a name that I respected and did well with. So I searched and now it's just "another brand".
I guess because I've been selling for a long time I became proud of the knowledge I'd gotten on brands. But the way ebay is now it just doesn't matter what brand your clothing item is.
It's almost like Nordstrom becoming Kmart!

Brands and buyers cycle. You have to research to find the latest hot brand. Or hot style/color if brands aren't hot right now. Retail has always been like that. Sorta sucks, because it probably makes buying harder for most sellers here.

This is true! Just when I think I'm familiar with some "good" brands, they're not so good anymore, lol. Just keep reading the boards, looking and trying, I guess that's all you can do. It's frustrating, lol.

all true-retail cycles, brands fall out of fashion, tastes change, etc, etc, etc.
but it also might have a bit to do with the endless chatter about great sellers/bolos.
i'm not surprised there are people talking and writing blogs on the subject, but I AM stupefied that there are so many of them.
it increases the competition exponentially.

I know what you mean; a decent brand becomes B&B at best in a heartbeat those days. Kloset, I agree. There's them what don't believe that it saturates the market with competition. I don't get it myself but gave up on trying to convert anybody. They think what they think; I really don't understand the appeal of broadcasting the info tho... it's not like they're gaining anything unless it's the attention they crave.

Roy, for things like Marc Jacobs you might do better on Shop Hers. I would definitely check out the prices there before listing it on ebay.

Actually I did just try to list it but my picture was too big. I also listed an Escada leather skirt here, on ShopHers and Tradesy.
I totally agree with Kloset. Facebook is the worst for every Tom, Dick and Harry posting their Bolos. I could SCREAM
I know brands go in and out of favor. But the brands in vogue and in style, etc. should be classic and timeless for the most part.
I had a Vivienne Tam dress here for over a year. Posted it on Shop Hers and it sold in a week. There has to be a better place for selling our clothing then this place!

I am listing my higher end stuff on Shop Hers first now, giving them a little time before I list them on ebay.

I grabbed up a Lilly skirt this afternoon before I remembered that they have lost their luster.
My only hope is that it is a wanted print.
I think the print name is "Where's the Reef".

I sold a skort yesterday and a couple dresses within the last couple weeks. They aren't woo-hoos but they do move and I think they're still worth picking up if the cost is reasonable. One of the dresses I sold recently was the one I accidentally paid $19.99 for because I didn't see the GW tag hiding inside. (We have set prices by category and if it's higher it will be tagged) I would not have picked up that up if I'd seen it. I didn't make much on it, but at least it wasn't a loss.

I've noticed that Lilly prices have dropped. I guess it's because you can find it in department stores at the mall now.

I know this is a little off topic and I'm dating myself but does anyone remember Jordache Jeans? Everyone had to have a pair. They were the only jeans I would wear and they had to be skin tight!
They fell out of fashion and hit hard. I don't think the name ever recovered.

It's a big circle. I believe the values of these brands drop for many reasons.
Lilly Pulitzer? Carried in more discount places and easier to get your hands on for more affordable prices than Nordstrom/Dillards/Boutiques. Marc Jacobs? Have you seen the high end section at Ross/TJMaxx? Yep. It's carried there. And look at the piece. Is it "Marc Marc Jacobs" or is it "Marc Jacobs"? Those are 2 price points and regular Marc Jacobs can still do OK.
The beauty is that brand gets replaced with another. This year it will be one brands, then next year another brand will be a hot seller.

I pick up some big names I notice but overall I never worried too much about brands. I sell more on style, I also don't worry much about what others have priced, I just put it where I'd be happy. Many times I'm well above what others have sold for but I figure someone has to be on the high end. Why not me, why would I intentionally undersell? Even with BO my items usually fell into the middle to upper range on the ended searches. Not because they were any better, just because I priced them better. Now I will be the first to admit that I don't know if that will still work or not. Been 2 years or so since I listed but I don't plan to change anything to start with. I'll price them where I want, no matter how they compare to ended and see what happens.

That's good to know Terri. Maybe I'll try a combo of some cheaper quick turn over/low ROI items and some happy price ones. Hopefully that will keep steady income, coming in.

They don't fit me, of course, but I can't get rid of them. I loved the Sergio Valente ones too. Jordache is sold at Walmart now.

Yay for you! How much did you get for it, if you don't mind me asking. I double-listed a few things on there and eBay quite awhile ago. I sold one right away, but nothing since, and had sort of forgotten about adding listings there. It's a coincidence that you posted this because I just spent the morning adding 10-12 things to my shop there.

I've also noticed that some of the brands like Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors are kind of tough because people can't find them. No way to search for Michael Kors without getting all the "Michael Michael Kors" and "Kors Michael Kors".

Ring - I sold it for $85. A girl on ebay has one up very similar for $49. I was quite happy. That's the Vivienne Tam dress and the skirt in three days. I think it pays to look for those designer things for Shop Hers. I have been doing well with Tradesy!

I think I may try my hand at Shophers. I don't really find too many designer duds but I was surprised to see they accept Lauren Ralph Lauren which is pretty easy to come by. I think I will list some over there this weekend and see how it goes.

I think I'm going to try my hand there. I don't have much to list there--maybe 2 items--but it won't hurt to try, right? Going to list my RL Collection blazer for a hefty woo hoo price and see what happens.

I've been taking advantage of the free auction listings. At least 3 times it's happened, where I raised the original buy it now, to accommodate the 30% higher requirement - of an auction. (And it sells for the higher buy it now price)
So the ole saying, if it doesn't sell, raise the price, can hold true. Yay!

So the ole saying, if it doesn't sell, raise the price, can hold true. Yay!Oh yes! If I have an FP item that doesn't sell but still has 5 or more watchers, I relist the next evening at a slightly higher price. Within 24 hours it's usually snapped up. If only I could get 5 or more serious watchers on more things!

There are SO many brands that used to sell so well for me that are now a lot tougher to move. IMHO the big sellers such as bhfo etc auctioning a lot of those same brands off for cheap, hurts the market.
