It's a little different than what you might be used to, so here's a couple things it took me a few minutes to figure out….

The reply window opens automatically. If you just want to post a fast reply, no formatting, no smileys, no attachments, click the white "post reply" button in the left corner of the screen, you can do this before or after you type your comment.

If you want to format your reply, add smileys, pictures, etc., click the yellow reply button in the top right corner. You can click this before you start typing, or even after you've started and realize you want to add fancy stuff.

This is the 'formatting' screen that comes up when you click the yellow reply button, options are pretty self explanatory::

Cool, thanks for the quick rundown.
It seems pretty easy, we will just have to poke around and try things out.

LOL! Maybe if we're lucky, Shirley, Zoe, Jeremy, Kritter, or anyone else who customized one of the forum offered avatars will make a separate instructional discussion on how to do that…..

Val, do you know if there's an option as admin to setup a hover feature? That's one thing I'd really miss.
Is there some reason that you chose this forum software instead of the Simple Machines that Kevin used. Not being critical, just wondering.

This is a "full service" forum. They handle the software, hosting, everything. Simple Machines also requires a separate hosting source. Installing, customizing, etc. something like Simple Machines is beyond my skill set. Shoot, this place was too the first evening I set stuff up I read the reviews on Simple Machines and while excellent, it was just too much of a learning curve and I don't have time right now to take on that kind of project. Me, I'm winging it with Shirley's help (who is also learning on the run, good thing we're both fairly quick learners, LOL!). Shirley's been poking around the admin panel so she might find a hover option. I'll look too.

One thing I did find was that we can change out the forums default avatar.
I know a lot of people find Mr Egghead/Buddha/Roswell alien really creepy.
So if we can come up with an optional non-creepy generic head image I can make the change.

Can we go with a symbol like a big colored star, or happy face, or something generic (instead of a face) for the default avatar?

Totally understand that, Val. I didn't realize that simple machines was so involved. Guess simple is a misnomer. LOL.

I think a generic image is better for the default avatar -- we want to encourage people to make/upload their own!
Hrmm, we could use a picture of Jeff T (or Brucie!) as the default; that would encourage people to change it pretty quickly.

Good point, ahrn. On leaving the default, that is. Egghead is kinda creepy.

Val, it there a way to set up the order that posts on a thread can be read by an individual?
I am trying to find out to set up order in which posts can be read on a thread. Right now I am seeing oldest to newest. I would like to have the posts on a thread I an reading from newest to oldest.
thanks

According staff at the support forum, no. "Unfortunately, no, this is not possible. However, if you click the last post column of the respective thread, it will load the topic up at the last post, and if the topic has new posts, clicking directly on the 'new' icon which shows alongside the topic title, will load the topic up at the first unread post."I'm sorry.

I had posted a question, then saw the answer and felt like an idiot, so I edited my post. I would ask you if there's a way to delete a post, but the answer is probably here somewhere, and if I ask it I'll feel like an idiot and have to edit this post, so I won't ask.

Top right corner of your post, there is a gear wheel with a scroll arrow, click on that and you'l see the delete post option. Took me a while to find it too.

Can we contribute to the cost of the board?

When you're at the bottom of a page, is there a way to know that there's more on the next page without going up to the top and clicking on the next page? I don't see any way to advance from the bottom.
Also, I looked around a bit, but couldn't find a setting for number of posts to appear on one page. I always prefer to set that at the highest possible, like 50 posts, so I can just scroll down rather than have to keep advancing pages. Has anyone found a way to change that?

I looked around and found it.
It is a board wide setting only, not an individual one.
I set it to 30 posts, which is the max setting.
That should help make the boards easier to read.
Thanks for everyone's patience while we work out the kinks and get the place all ship shape.

Part 1 of your question, I haven't found it. Someone else asked too, Allikat I think, in a different thread, that I can't find now. She asked if there could be page numbers on the pages. It kind of goes along with my question to Val about post numbering for posts needing to be turned on.
Val did check on post numbers & it's not as simple as just flipping an on switch, so she is going to look into it. Hopefully, she can also look into Page numbering in addition to post numbering, when she has time.

shirley, thank you for the 30 posts per page. That should help considerably.
zoe, as far as Part 1, ahrncity helped us out with that. While there are no page numbers or next at the bottom of the page, there are some that remain at the top of the page even when you scroll down. I hadn't noticed that before.
Thanks, guys!

Yup, I saw it & commented, but couldn't remember where this was, to come & update it. Thanks! I hadn't noticed it either.
I like the new look!
