I want a set of aluminum tumblers like my grandmother had. Or at least similar. True vintage would be nice, but they wouldn't be hers. So I'm open to the idea of a new 'retro' set. I've limited my searches to vintage thus far only because I'm not sure I trust the quality of the current sets. I'm thinking they're probably thinner? Not that Grandma's had the weight of lead crystal, but I don't know if the process is the same.
Anyone have an opinion on the new sets, or a suggestion as to brand name I could be looking for in the vintage to narrow down my results? Combing through vintage listings has been frustrating primarily due to eBay search and the listings not all being in the same category.

Thanks Titus. That's exactly what concerned me - the quality would be disappointing. I'll just keep going through the vintage ones. I love the way they look, but in my memory drinks tasted colder in them too.

Funny...I was just talking last Thursday to a gal in my Tops group. She has the originals...guaranteed. And I have been trying to get her to start selling on eBay. She inherited a ton of stuff from her Mom.
Will talk to her this Thursday about them.
ETA: I just called her and she will bring them in on Thursday to Tops. They are new and unused in the original box!!!!
Will take pics and get back to you.

Ooo, maybe she'll have two and I'll buy one. And Elly, your drink did stay colder in them.

Here they are ^^ above. By Perma Hue of Edgerton, Ohio. In original box, but box has damage. Thick-walled originals.
Absolutely perfect and never used....no marks at all. Trouble is, her friend does flea-marketing and told her to ask for $60. Trying to get her down.....

They're beautiful. If Elly declines I'll take them.

Guaranteed to be USA made! Okay, got her down to $50 plus shipping if we go straight through PP. They will be under 2 lbs. I can post pics of the box, but would prefer to wrap each one in bubble wrap and don't know if they would still fit in the box then.
But whatever the buyer wants....
Sherry also has vintage cookie jars, glassware....Trying to convince her to let me know what she has first and I can give her a fair price....before she shows to flea marketing pal.
She also gave me a sealed record of Pope Pius XII 1950 to list that I am still researching.

Oh yeah....she also gave me a rose-pink aluminum pitcher, but it has been used. Can't read the bottom, but it might be Westbend...think I can see a W

We had those when I was a kid. We were assigned a color each day and had to use it for the day. That was before dishwashers so I understand why mom didn't wash glasses all day long.

Check out this pinterest link... most all the styles and brands are featured. I liked the bright vivid colors... purples/pink/green/blue/red colors. I don't care for the pastel shades that look faded out to me. I received some colorful aluminum measuring cups as a gift probably in the 1960's but used for display only in my kitchen as these would scratch in no time running a knife across the top of the cup. And I had a set of 4 tumblers with handles... looks like the ones in the first photo. I liked the cups with handles the best for picking up as my hands are sensitive to an ice cold drink. Ha! I had a pitcher but never used it as I did not like the pale gold color that looked faded to me. I could not find a pitcher in a purple or green at the time. lol I used a cut glass pitcher instead as it had a lid that came with it and was easy to store in the frig. I drank a lot of "red berry" flavor kool-aid and ice tea back then. I grew up on RED kool-aid with lots of sugar...

Thanks for posting the pics Denise, it's a pretty set. But I found what I was looking for last night. My grandmother's set had a lip like these, so I was looking for that same style. And the colors are right. I have kind of a loose rule that all eBay purchases (not related to the business like poly mailers) have to be paid for with eBay profits. That keeps my inner shopaholic in check. But since moving the bulk of my listings to a new ID, I haven't had a single sale this week. I'm not sure that has ever happened before. Something needs to shake loose today or I need to change my rule. So it looks like Titus has a new set of NEW aluminum tumblers. With coasters!

Woo hoo, goody for me.
Elly, those are gorgeous! And you get the juice glasses too. Great find.
Denise, I'll send a PM with my mailing address. Let me know the total and your Paypal email and I'll sent the payment as a gift.

Glad you found what you wanted Elly! Yay Titus! Would this count as one of my 3 per day? Do you want the original box?

It turned out to be serendipity that I didn't want to whip out my credit card last night. I ended up getting exactly what I wanted and couldn't have bought anywhere. My grandmother's actual set of tumblers, her pitcher, and a duplicate set of unused tumblers and matching ice cream bowls that belonged to her sister.
Just before I came here this morning I posted to my Family List on FB that I was going to buy vintage aluminum tumblers 'like Grandma's'. A cousin posted back about an hour later, "Why don't I just give you Grandma's? I've had them for 20 years and never used them. I only display them in my pie safe."
She also promised me a mint Christmas tree color wheel to go with my vintage silver aluminum tree I bought last year (I've been on a nostalgia kick for several years). And she's going to include some other items that belonged to my great aunt she thinks might have been duplicates of my grandmother's. The sisters, my grandmother and great aunt, went shopping together all the time and often ended up buying like items. But my grandmother had 7 kids and my great aunt and her husband had no children. So a lot of what my great aunt bought ended up gently used or not used at all.
I can't wait to get this package.
If anyone else is looking for the aluminum tumblers, search glasses and cups too. There are some unused vintage sets out there, some priced lower than I would have expected, but it takes a lot of searching. Sellers use different key words and there are 3-4 collectible categories where they fit. Etsy had less in general than what I found in eBay, but condition and prices made them worth the time to look. I browsed on and off for a week before narrowing it down to 2-3 sets I may have bought.

I hope you are getting a cut Denise. New sets are available if you take the time to search; they might not have sold as quickly had she listed them.
Titus, I want to thank you for giving me first dibs. I had been going to suggest Denice's friend list them and let it play out, since we were both looking for a set. But it worked out just the way it was supposed to because you were so nice about it.

I think she will give me a cut. She also needs the $$, but it is easier for me to sell stuff for her, than for her to learn what to do. And her laptop died anyway.
She is a really nice person.
Thanks for even posting about this Elly, and I will be happy to send them to my BFF Titus!
Titus-I will answer your PM.

Elly, thank you for the kind words but niceness didn't enter into it. You asked first therefore you get first dibs. I know life ain't fair but I play by the rules.

I also play by the rules....Elly was first. I like her Gramma's kind, but the tumblers that look like top hats bother me. I would have drinks all down the front of me....
Also, please don't let all of those drinks go to your butt! giggle.
Good thing that you can't rate me, Titus, since I am such a lousy seller...tee hee.

I do think you will like the packing....was close to the max. Tried to include at least the box bottom, but couldn't.
Hope pink bubble wrap is suitable!

I didn't need the box, or any part of it. But maybe I can recycle the pink bubble wrap. All I have here is boring old clear.
