Not a petty rant. I went through the same thing when I worked in the finance office of the non profit. It always astounded me when sub contractors would call me 2 or 3 years after they worked for us looking for their 1099s. Did they not file their taxes for that year? And I'd have to send it 2 or 3 times before they actually received it.

Can you charge them for additional copies?

Nah, nothing to charge for. They wanted our info to send us a 1099. Bet he asks for it again (it's a dentist). Hope he knows teeth better than he does business.

Can you charge them for additional copies? I wish we could have, it would have paid for a few lunches. Even more annoying were the past employees who forgot to change their address and their W-2s would be returned by the post office. I had a large file of them from years past.

I like the employees and subs who don't give us address updates, then get upset because it's wrong on the W2. Then they want us to change it, which we refuse to do UNLESS we haven't efiled the fed forms, then we'll change for them. Our responsibility is to report correct wages/payments on correct SSN. The rest of the crap is their problem.
