Is there a way to "tag" someone in a thread?

I wondered the same thing in two ways. Like if you mention a user's name in a post, they can get a notification. The other that would be nice if you could tag a user like on reddit. A little note like "knows about zippers" that's only viewed by the tagger.

Yup, that. I have a pattern I thought Gen might be interested, but wanted to be sure she "saw" it.

I think this might have to be an ahrn question, unless Shirley or Clean can figure it out. There is a tag 'button' on the reply window, but I don't know what all it does. If you go to the full reply window (NOT the quick reply button), on the icons look for the one with a little lego person and th "@" behind it (5th from the right end of the icon row). This is supposed to be a tag username link but beyond that, I have no clue.

The recipient also has to have 'tag' notification checked too. I just checked mine, want to try another tag?

Okey dokey.
To receive notices that someone has tagged you, you have to turn on the 'tag' notification setting. Go to Profile/Edit Profile/Notifications. Tag is the 3rd one down.
To tag someone, use the REPLY button to the top right of the reply window (not the Post Quick Reply at the bottom left), type your content, and then click the 5th icon from the left end, looks like a Lego figure with @ behind it, and enter the name of the user you want to tag.
If they have turned on Tag Noticies, they'll see the notice alert on their Profile tag.

Didn't work, maybe you can't tag yourself?

Cool! Never noticed the tag feature. I always liked the quote feature because it calls a particular person's attention to your post, but the tag is great for new threads and threads where that person hasn't posted and there's nothing to quote.
Also, just as a clarification about the notifications. Without doing anything, the default is to be notified through the forum (i.e. the notifications that pop up as a number in a bubble up at the top of the page) for everything. You can follow val's instructions to edit your notifications if you'd also like to receive an email when someone tags or quotes you.

I copied this from a recent daily chat. Kudos to 57roses.
You can tag someone by putting an @ in front of their ID name as in @ dantes without the space in between. It will show up in color if the tag works correctly.

It doesn't work for everyone. In some cases you have to leave out special characters & in other cases, like Val, it doesn't work no matter what you do. For the most part it works, but sometimes you have to play around with it.

Ah ha. Figured it out.
If you use the "insert user link" icon in the reply window, and then pick their ID, it works. (It's the little yellow head guy in a blue shirt icon.)
You're having problems tagging me, zoe, because my screen name is val2525 but apparently my ID is admin.
That might be why some seem to work and others don't - some members signed up with X ID but use Y screen name.

You're an exception, most of the problem ones are ones with special characters & they'll work if you leave out the special characters. Let me try you with the insert... val2525looks like it works. Easier than remembering some of the ID's & fixes the special characters problem too, I'm guessing.

IIRC you couldn't use special characters in your id - so I'm signed up as fashionboulevard but changed my screen name to fashion*boulevard - so same principle.

val2525 Aha, that trick of Val's worked for me. Clicked on the blue shirted guy, began typing Val's name and it brought up a list of members. I chose Val's name though it showed as Admin. Now to try to tag myself.
