A buyer sent me a question this morning. "If I buy and pay for the item today, could you send it expedited instead of standard ? Leaving for vacation and need to get it ASAP. Thanks."
The item is lightweight, so I had listed it with first class mail as the only shipping. I added Priority to the listing and replied, telling her she could choose that option when she paid. I didn't promise that it would arrive by any particular day.
She bought it, paid for first class, and included a note with her payment, "Thanks for mailing the package today."
Of course, I will mail the package today. I would have done so in any case, but we never discussed when I would mail it. My listings specify that I ship within one business day.
Anyway, I suppose eBay uses this "standard" and "expedited" terminology because some people might be shipping by carriers other than USPS. It would be much clearer if they would use the actual terminology of the service we're providing, especially since we have to specify that when listing.

I would worry about it getting to her in time though. Not your fault.

It's unclear to me, so I imagine it's unclear to buyers. Standard & expedited is not the terminology people using USPS are used to & it's idiotic. But then again, so is most everything, so why should this be any different?
