I've got one like that and it works well for the girls, who are sensible and clean. My boy just goes all over the floor.
Mine has a U shape at the front, though, for easier entry and exit for tired old bones.

Hoots seems OK with the height of the current box, which is about what the large high box is in the front. I saw a couple of styles that had a high back like this one but a low front (no, not the feret ones, LOL) and they'd be too low. Hoots likes a good bit of litter in the box.

I have an Omega Paw box. It's covered, you just roll it to empty it and my two boy cats like it. I have 3 boxes, one on each level of the house., only one Omega. The other two boxes are very rarely used.

Val as Unknown mentioned what about a covered box? Although here I have noticed that the open box tends towards being the pee box.
I know the old adage you should have 1 litter box for every cat and then an extra. We go with that here but all of the litter boxes are in the basement. I find the covered boxes they poop in and the one open box is the pee box and I have one little mutant....Raider lol...who is a litter thrower when he covers up after himself.

I think she said Hoots doesn't like the covered box since he had to stay at the vet for dental work and doesn't want to feel confined. The high back one would work IF he uses it the right way. If he turns around and sticks his butt to the low side, same problem. We have the kind that just has the snap on collar around the whole perimeter (couldn't find a picture online, but what they sell at Target/Walmart, basic). It angles in a bit so they don't really put their butts outside of it, but they do manage to kick litter everywhere. I just keep in an extra bathtub to contain the mess and vacuum it out/hose it down periodically when I do the full box change out. My girls used to have a poop box and a pee box, but it changed randomly. I guess first in after I cleaned them got to choose which way it was going to be.

Most of my cats won't use a covered box either.
We use the Texas Hillbillies approach here. I have taken the Sterlite storage totes and cut an entry hole in the width end of the tote. Leave the top off.
Gives even the wide load butt cats room to turn around in and the sides are high.

Hootie hasn't liked a covered box since his dental work. It's not covered vs non issue anyway. It's having a high enough back so if he doesn't want to squat, the pee still goes in the box and not over the top of the sides/back. The current box is just too short I can't get on to him, he IS going in the box. So I thought a higher back might be the answer.

Unknown, they work great.
Yogi is one of those stand and pee guys so nothing goes over the top edge. For those cats that cover, unless they happen to flip it out the open area, all litter stays inside and banks off the high walls.

I have a covered box without the lid. One of the kitties starting peeing high against the back wall, so DH made a "backsplash" out of a piece of plexiglass he had lying around.
