My Verizon tech told me about this-Clean Master....a free app. A few times a week, the little broom icon shows up, and it asks you to boost or clean your cell, which takes seconds. So it helps to get rid of excess junk that we don't need.

Um, what is considered 'excess junk'?

My stuff may be someone elses junk, so I don't like to use automated things like that.
I like my junk.

I guess it is search history or something. Anything that will bog down the phones.
The rep also told me not to update the apps, which is constantly an option....since they add JUNK!

Uh oh, I haven't even turned my new phone on because I am dreading learning to use it. Now you tell me they send updates and it can change the whole thing?

Yup.
What pissed me off this time is the view size has changed, and it's hard to read. Everything is smaller. Only reason I got THIS phone was the screen display size. It was BIG enough to read without glasses. Not now though.
Several updates back, the update sucked up battery life until a fix came out.

You should be able to increase the view size Val. Google or check the online manual.

I was just prompted to do a sweep. It said that the sweep would clean up ad junk....kind of like ad muncher, I guess.
I also hate the updates-it does change a lot of stuff.

Problem fixed. Reset display. And text. And options. And a whole lot of other stuff. I hate updates.
I like technology and software, but for some reason I don't like cell tech. Bleah.

I profess a preference to cell techs over eBay techs...

LOL @ eBay tech. *snort*
I don't mind updates on software, goodness knows I have them constantly on the tax and accounting softwares. Plus, I use multiples of both - at least 2 tax softwares every year, and about 3 accounting programs PLUS at least 4-5 versions of Quickbooks (and that's weekly!). I don't mind messing with websites, I don't know much but I'm learning. And I'm the one who finds the accounting related add-on programs for clients. I don't mind any of that, I find it challenging and fun.
Plus, I need to get a tablet because I have some clients are switching to almost 100% tablet use on some of the programs we use. I'm even OK with that.
But for some reason, I just cannot get onboard with the cell phones. I use mine, but I know maybe 20% of what it can do.

That's interesting. I was told that it's best for your battery life to keep everything up to date. When I update everything I seem to get almost an extra 1/2 day of battery life. That makes sense about space though. I never really paid much attention since I'm far from running out of space.

I don't like installing stuff like that on my phone. However, I have had the same iPhone (and abuse the heck out of it on a daily basis) for 3 years now. I have never had to install anything to clean it or make it run smooth. Every couple of months I will clear the cache and make sure all my photos are saved to my Time Capsule and delete them all from the phone. I don't run location services for my apps, except for maybe 4 or 5 of them that I use often. Even then, it's not problematic. I use WiFi when I'm at home and at work as to not eat my data up. DS has free WiFi on his campus so that helps a lot! I did find this if anyone else is looking for a battery saver: appcrawlr.com/ios/360-battery-saverIt seems to be really well rated. DH has an Android (Samsung S5) and it's been hell trying to figure out his phone and save his battery life. He uses it 99% of the time just for work so I know he's on it all day. They use apps for sending reports from the jobsites.

Kat-wonder if it is the type of phone? I have a Samsung S4. Oh. That must be. I have an iPhone 5S. Like shoppingaddiction said, I don't have any issues on how the phone functions or any speed problem. I am due to clean up my pics soon. I use the cloud, but I am not 100% trusting, so I like to move them onto a thumb drive. I have over 1000 pics in my phone now, and it doesn't cause problems except for trying to sort through for specific ones.
