Well, I personally didn't get them back. But I could have.
Just as you can do a System Restore in Windows, you can also do a Library Restore*. First go to your library (by way of Start/Computer), then right click on the exact library location of your moved/missing files. In other words, not just Music, but My Music or Public Music. One of the options will be Restore Previous Versions. It will search for some restore dates for you, then you choose a date prior to your loss of media.
The irony is that I tried this myself within just a few hours after the pictures went missing. But I was impatient. When I clicked on Restore Previous Versions my computer was 'searching for available dates (or some wording to that effect)' so long I thought it wasn't working and closed it up. I even tried it a second time. In my defense, niece's BF said it took longer than average when he did it. But from start to finish the process was only about 10-15 min according to my niece.
*Unfortunately I think this does only work with Win 7 and 8. I went Googling for a good set of step by step instructions to link here and only found references to restoring libraries in 7 & 8.
ETA: If anyone feels they're missing something, the whole saga is in a thread in the Clubhouse. But I wanted to put the solution in a place where all members could view it.
