I am going into work late a few days this week so I am trying to unload mom's "stuff". The only thing she had of any value is Fostoria crystal. I washed 5 glasses today and they start tonight. Took some photos of some Adderley tea cups and saucers. Will get them up tomorrow.
I hate listing this stuff because shipping them is a PITA. I have the Fostoria wrapped in bubble wrap, 2 per box, surrounded by peanuts and put in another huge box.

Good luck! That's how I have been shipping breakables, double boxed.

Yes. Very much a pita but I am using up some old shipping supplies. Will have to make it a point to look for the dreaded peanuts at work. I prefer airbags but the peanuts work for this stuff.

Sold the goblets for $75 which is better than what I was making with them sitting in my basement. Going to try listing the other Fostoria later today or Friday.

In my tiredness I posted this twice so I deleted my other post which was in the wrong section anyway. Been working 11 to 16 hr days trying to make up for what hubby loses not teaching on the side during the summer.

Shipping these fragiles has kept me from listing pieces too. I get too nervous about breakage even though I feel I pack well. I have a couple pieces of Waterford to unload and endless pieces of Longaberger pottery. I cringe. ETA: I see you sold your goblets, congrats!

I've sold a fair amount of glass, and the only time I've had anything break was due to it being shipped through sub-freezing conditions. I had no idea, but that will break glass. I always single box and use peanuts. Crystal I would double box, though.

This is all good info as I have 2 Waterford crystal goblets to list and have been procrastinating because I didn't want to ship them. Congrats on your woo-hoo, labby!

I would never have thought about sub-freezing conditions causing glass breakage! Thanks for the info!

I've always read that you should also ship Priority, not Parcel. Or so it's been frequently posted on the boards over the years.

I had some cool plastic pieces shatter as well, even though the buyer admitted they were packaged exceptionally well (think Melmac type dishes, although these were Danish? I think? It was a LONG time ago.) The only thing the buyer and I could come up with was the temperature changes in flight. One of the pieces was shattered but stilled wrapped, like it disintegrated all at once inside the paper/bubble wrap.

I used to sell glass. Rarely did anything break. I took glasses, rolled each one in bubble wrap. Then I would take up to 4 glasses, put them together with packaging tape and roll them in bubble again. This prevents them from shifting and moving around in shipping. Then pack tight with popcorn with at least 2 inches of space between the glasses and box. If they are super fragile, then double box also. Plates the same way. Wrap each one then stack and tape the stack together. I even shipped UPS ground without breakage.
