My oldest son is 14, (15 in November) and will be going to high school in the fall. We have been talking about how expensive life gets when you hit high school: band costs, baseball costs, driver's ed, a car, insurance, etc. He is asking me to help him learn how to sell on eBay, and I think it will be great for a teen. The flexibility, the lessons of managing yourself and your time, etc.
Has anyone here gotten a teen started? Did you have a separate PP account? I don't even know if he can have a PP acct at age 14. I will be opening a second eBay ID for him, will he be linked to my account? Anything else that I am missing?

He has to be 18 years old to sell on ebay.
"To use eBay at all - to sell or buy - you need to be at least 18 years old. This is a legal requirement as bids and sales are binding and you have to be of an age to accept that responsibility."

My son started selling some of his record albums a few months ago. He's 14 too, will be 15 in a couple of weeks. I let him use my buying account which was set up to buy and to occasionally sell DH's duplicate auto parts. He asks me when he wants to sell something first before just listing it. I showed him how to take pictures and how to research. He knew a little about the research since he was always looking up other record albums to buy.
Since my buying ID was already linked to my main account, that wasn't an issue for us. Whenever he sells something (and he has a better sell-thru rate than me lol), I give him his portion of the money once my paypal account has been credited and the item has been delivered. Right now, since he is only an occasional seller, this arrangement is working out fine for both of us. Once he turns 18 and is still interested in selling, we will probably set him up with his own account.

You must be at least 18 years old to be an eBay member. A person under 18 can use an adult's account with the permission of the account holder. However, the account holder is responsible for everything done with that account. Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don’t, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account. pages.ebay.com/help/policies/identity-underage-users.htmlJust create another one in your name.

My DS was 17 when he set up his own eBay account, enlisting the cooperation of my SO for jointly using his bank account. He was mum about what he bought and sold, and to this day, I'm still wondering WHAT magazine he auctioned and got $900 for...because he was/is very smug and secretive!
