This is my first year filing with my eBay earnings, and I want to be sure that I am using the best software for a Schedule C.
I am getting mixed reviews from folks who use TurboTax for their businesses (which I have used for years for our personal taxes)
I saw TaxAct, which is much much cheaper, but not many people can tell me how thorough it is.
Anyone have a recommendation? I want to get started on this tomorrow, so I can quit worrying about whether or not I am going to owe money. I am used to a pretty fat refund, and hope I don't end up in the red this year.

I used Turbo Tax last year with no problems, I had a full time job and pretty full time eBay. This year is just eBay and was planning on using it again. It was easy, walked you through step by step and I compared everything to what was done the previous year by a CPA.

TaxAct all the way, baby!
Same stuff as TurboTax (they've been around as long if not longer that TurboTax) and they're a heck of a lot cheaper. If you get stuck, several of us here use it. Has an interview format, walks you thru the whole thing. I use it, Betty uses it, and a couple of others do but I forget who. There are some over on Kevin's forum that use it too.
The ones who use TurboTax may be grumbling because TurboTax upped their price. TaxAct is one price, ALL the schedules.

UGH! I keep hearing about TaxAct. I've done mine at H&R block forever and I keep going back because all of my information is saved there and I don't feel like inputting it all again.
I have a serious questions though. Are they all so much different that the amount of money you get back is higher/lower with one or the other? What would the difference be?

I use H&R Block too, just can't bring myself to use a different one. I use to use the office but have used online for several years. Think it's a trust and familiarity thing. I'm use to using it and I trust it so even though I pay a lot I feel better LOL We have to file in 2 states too so it adds up but it's still not too bad, under $100 total.

You're paying for advertising. H&R Block and TurboTax advertise HEAVILY. TaxAct uses internet ads and word of mouth. I've used all 3, they're pretty much the same.

I hate change! It's just so easy to import the last years info.

H & R here too. Have 2 states as well, Arizona, and California. Last year we tried Jackson Hewitt (we had a coupon). They were so unprofessional. And it was our luck, we had the gal in training, and it was her first year.
Unfortunately we get comfortable with a freelance tax consultant, and then they retire. And our last H & R guy transferred out.

Ok. Just wanted to make sure. H&R Gives a nice military discount. Some offer free for military, but I'm familiar with H&R so I will stick with them.

I'm. It sure. Sorry. When I log onto the AF official site (requires CAC log-in) there is a link to the site with the discount.

We use TurboTax Home and Business. It's what we have always used and it is nice to just import and not have to re-enter a lot of information.
