I posted on the article. If it's a separate site under Amazon, I think it might work. Amazon could have different regs that would work for custom orders and handcrafted items. But if it will be part of regular Amazon, I don't think it will work.
Like eBay - had they made the old eBay Express a true, separate, standalone site, it would have worked. But it was a hybrid that pulled from the main eBay site and it confused buyers and sellers.

I agree 100%. Amazon is smart though and will always be the leader in ecommerce. They are putting feelers out right now to get a sense of what needs to be done. they also ADVERTISE!

It's like "Clash of the Titans' watching the big guys duke it out. eBay wants to be Amazon, Amazon wants to be Etsy, & on & on. DH got an email this week inviting him to apply to sell his plumbing services on Amazon... so Amazon wants to be Craigslist. Funny- I just did a survey for Etsy. One of the things they wanted to know was where do I sell. When I mentioned a stand-alone site, the next screen was all about what I'd like to see in a website, as if they're interested in developing web stores like eBay & Bonanza. Everyone wants a piece of someone else's pie, and they all have their hands in our pockets. : /

Amazon wants to be your grocer and Angie's List. I am getting multiple emails about Amazon Fresh and about purchasing home improvement services. I'll stick with Shop Rite and Angie's List for the time being.

Etsy stock is trading today around $17 today which is definitely a crash from their 52 week high of a little over $35.
If the stock continues to fall, Amazon can just buy etsy and get it done.
