eBay's head of community Jeff Terrell had this to say in a thread on the eBay discussion boards:
My take on it is that for some buyers, having to consider whether or not the seller is a good seller or not is a distraction. It's something not found on most of the other major ecommerce sites. If someone is selling on eBay, then the seller is above standard. The buyer should trust that seller, and if the seller fails to perform, eBay's Money Back Guarantee is there to take care of the buyer. The buyer can focus on buying the item.
Just when I thought this moron couldn't get any stupider.

Let's just eliminate the confusion of having to look for and buy things all together. eBay can just use our fees to purchase stuff and randomly ship it to registered buyers. That way we could eliminate feedback too as whatever they get will be a delightful surprise.

Jeff Terrel is a clueless idiot. With the reputation eBay has for scamming sellers, eBay really thinks taking away the one thing that helps a buyer decide on seller quality will improve the buyer experience? As for a seller being automatically good just because they ARE selling here…. Has Jeff seen the crap that the take-a-pic/slap-it-up new sellers have been listing? And the buyers feedback a few weeks later? Does Jeff realize how many BAD sellers there still are on this site? No visible seller FB might work for NWT/NIB consumer goods from the big sellers (athletic shoes, batteries, printer cartridges, etc) but it won't work for used goods in any category.

Will this affect us being able to see feedback a buyer has left for sellers? Are they trying to keep us from setting up blocked buyer lists?

For the last week or so my BO buyers show as zero fb until I click their ID and find their real FB #. Also most of them show as 0 fb left even though they have high fb #'s so I would assume that yes it's going to block their fb left being viewed also. I kept thinking it was a glitch but maybe it is part of the testing.
I don't have a problem with them going FB free but I don't want it hidden. Do away with it completely. Put firm rules in place for the # of Ebay handled refunds (ones where the seller didn't do their part) that a seller can have before getting booted and leave it at that. As a buyer I will use ebay or paypal to get my refund if the seller doesn't ship or something so I'm not too worried about the fb. Right now the fb is so one sided I'd rather it be gone.

Jeff is just doing the corporate speak like a good little minion.
Whatever they tell him to say is what comes out of his mouth no matter how ridiculous it is.
He wants to keep his big money job and will not do anything to rock his boat.

Hidden seller feedback + buyers almost unconditional money-back guarantee = a recipe for disaster for sellers in used categories. What are they thinking?

I'm fine with doing away with feedback…if eBay dumps the defect system too.
Of course, with no feedback, there would be no way for a buyer to tell if the seller was good or bad until the item arrived (or didn't). Which would make for many unhappy buyers.
And saying it doesn't matter because the buyer can return the item? Um, no, that's not a solution either. I'm starting to see item reviews on RETAILER sites where buyers are using the review to complain that they (buyer) shouldn't have to pay to return the item because it didn't fit.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing, a glitch. Til I read about this & I'm sure it's part of their testing.
I'm with you, leave the FB or get rid of it, but don't make it difficult to find.

More info: www.ecommercebytes.com/cab/abn/y15/m05/i12/s01Of course, it was Jeffy that they quoted so I don't know how accruate it is. And really? There is no reason to leave negative FB for a buyer with all the things eBay has put in place? What a clueless dolt. Considering how long it takes eBay to act on reports about buyers, a buyer could put a couple dozen sellers out of business. Leaving negs for that buyer warns sellers and could nip things in the bud a hell of a lot faster than eBay works. He's so clueless.
