Are you changing your handling times? I currently have most of mine set for 1 day handling but I think I'm going to change it to 3 day just in case. If the forecasts are correct shipping might be an issue Tuesday and maybe Wednesday.

You might go to 4 or 5 days, so the delayed notice will be on your listing AND added to the delivery calculation by eBay. EBay tends to ignore 3 days if you happen to ship fast. You can always go back and edit back to your normal shipping time when the storm is over.

You can always go back and edit back to your normal shipping time when the storm is over. That's a really good idea. I remember someone telling me, (Forum Use maybe?), that up to 3 days, the calculation still goes by how quick you usually deliver. But at 4 days, it actually changes the calc. Ridiculous that we should even have to think abt something like that.

I have just finished shoveling an approx 300' driveway with 10" of snow - what a workout! This storm I'm staying in, listing, and drinking hot chocolate til it melts!
Whose idea was it to rent a house in Pa in the middle of the woods with SUCH a long driveway?? I guess when I rented in July I wasn't thinking! I scheduled a USPS pick up for tomorrow, sure hope my mail lady has 4 wheel drive - HA

If you already have bids on an item, you can't change the handling time, right? I have things with bids ending tonight and tomorrow night, so I guess I am stuck with 1-day handling.

I'm really torn about what to do. If I change my handling time, I lose the TRS discount for whatever sales I might have over the next day or two. I don't do carrier pickup, I go to the PO. I should be able to get there tomorrow morning before it hits. Probably won't be able to go Tuesday, but I think I should be able to get there by end of day Wednesday, so I think I'm going to keep the one day handling.

This is exactly the scenario I'm thinking about. I'm on L.I. and you're in CT right Terri? We're in the same storm path. Stay safe, everyone.

Take your average daily sales, times it by 3. Then figure your FVF, and the discount on the FVF. Is that discount worth potentally having multiple policy violations if you're unable to ship within a day? Just a thought.

I know it really doesn't amount to a whole lot, but it kills me to leave money on the table. LOL. It wouldn't really be a policy violation, would it? Isn't the only downside that it could impact the percentage of packages uploaded within my handling time? I'm not too worried about losing a percentage point or two on that.

Sorry, I used the wrong word. I don't know what it's called, I have 3 day handling and never take that long, so I don't pay attention.

Mine have been and will remain at 3 days even though I usually ship next day except on weekends. Even big storms they normally have roads cleared within a day or less after it stops (around me) so I've not had a problem getting out. My electric in our neighborhood is underground wiring so we don't have a lot of outtages either. I've also found customers to be understanding if you message and let them know there may be a day delay due to the snow - the news loves to yap about snow anywhere it happens so they usually have seen/heard about it already too.

OK, so here is what I am doing. Keeping my handling at 3 days (I still feel guilty if I don't ship next day, but oh well) and I've put my store on visible vacation with a note that there may be delays in shipping and on the post office end. People will just have to deal. I did get my stuff out this morning but I have a feeling it will be sitting at the Philly airport for a few days. They scanned everything so I'll be OK in eBay's eyes. After the PO I braved the grocery store. I have to say, I LOVE Aldi - they were well stocked in just about everything (running low on eggs, but I didn't need those anyway) and it wasn't a crazy zoo with people running around in a panic. Did my usual Monday grocery shopping with no problem. I think I actually WILL make French toast.

I have about 15 packages sitting on my front porch waiting for my mailman to pick up. I just called the post office to confirm they were making scheduled pick-ups today and was told they are shutting down the whole operation at 2 p.m. They were going to try and reach my mailman before then to make sure he comes by. Oh boy. I hope he shows up.
They have no idea what the plan is for tomorrow. I'm guessing if we really do get the forecast blizzard there won't be any delivery/pick-ups.

I went to the PO this morning with my weekend packages, then dentist, then Walmart. Our Walmart is a small one with most customers being from my town or the one next to us. It was definitely more crowded than a normal Monday morning, but not too bad. People loading up on bottled water (many people around here are on wells and if the power goes out, no water). Went to the grocery store on Friday, so we're set for the next few days.
Now they're saying it's not supposed to start in earnest here until later tonight, but instead of 1-2', now it's going to be 2-3' here in CT with winds up to 50 mph. If things get as bad as predicted, I may not be able to get out Wednesday either, so I guess I will go ahead and change my handling time from 1 day to 4 days. Going to wait until later this afternoon, though, as if anyone buys anything before then, I can still get it to PO today.
Still not sure how I'll deal if I wake up to 3' of snow against all my doors and I have to get the dog out. I'm trying to plan for the worst, while DH has his head in the sand and, of course, since he can't shovel due to the neck surgery... He's telling me now that he'll be fine to shovel if he takes it slow. Doctor told him absolutely not for a couple more months. I suggested having DS stay overnight here, but that would mean welcoming his kitten, too. DH says "son, yes, kitten, no". Well, he's not going to leave his kitten home alone, so then I suggested taking the dog to the kennel, at least overnight tonight. Negative on that suggestion, too. "Don't worry. It'll be fine". Men! Pow! To the moon!

When my auctions ended last night, I sent the winners invoices with a note about the weather and asking them to pay so I could get the packages out Monday morning (those are the ones still sitting on my porch waiting to be picked up). Anyway, 7 people didn't pay. Would it be awkward to send them a note through eBay messages asking them to hold off on payment until Wednesday so I can make sure there aren't any shipping delays on my end?

If I remember from storms in the past I think Ebay relaxes the shipping and handling time for those in the storms path. I know no one trusts them.

I probably will not change from one day handling time until tomorrow if I need it. No matter the weather tomorrow, my husband still has to trudge to work so he will stop at the PO for me if needed. He has Wednesday off though, if its yucky still Tuesday night I will just put the store on vacation until Thursday.

They have closed the post offices for tomorrow. There is a driving ban in Mass and here in NH, they have asked us to stay off the roads. We are suppose to get over 2 feet of snow.

Call me insane, but I am absolutely leaving my handling alone and shipping as soon as the post office re-opens.
I have inventory that should have been delivered today, UPS site says "delay for weather". It wasn't too bad today, I shipped.
What I will do is sent an informative message to each buyer that "shipments may be delayed due to weather and post office/UPS closings and to rest assured that their order is packed and ready for the soonest opening." If anyone has an issue and responds I will offer to cancel their order since there is nothing any retailer can do to force carriers to open or airports to fly parcels or roads to open when the mayor said it is not permitted.

HighEndBuys-- did your packages get picked up?
I hope it isn't as bad as they are saying it will be. I don't know what I would do in that situation, we rarely get snow here, and if we do, it melts in a day.

Well, I was attempting to post a pic of the last "blizzard" I survived shoveling (a "whopping" 12 inches) 4 years ago...guess I'll have to go back to the "how-to's" and figure it out. Hmmmmph Meanwhile, I'm enjoying a very mild winter, so far. But that is bound to change. Ice storms are more common here and can be especially nasty in February. We even had one in mid-April a few years ago.

Yes - after 2 reminder calls to the post office, my mailman picked them up around 1:50, that was 10 minutes before they closed. Unfortunately, though, he didn't scan them in even though I had a scan sheet with them. I am getting a warning now from eBay that I am close to the limit on un-scanned packages even though I include a scan sheet and always ship within 1 day.
Today we still have a driving ban on the roads so today's packages are going nowhere.
