Hi- I just got back from the post office. My favorite clerk, the one who's been encouraging me to use scan forms (she calls the manifests) told me that they've been informed that they must hand scan all packages now instead of the scan form. She said she has NO idea why this has been changed but will ask. Has anybody else heard anything about this? I thought the scan forms were to save the PO time at the counter. This makes no sense.

Ask her to show it to you in writing from the PostMaster General.
Sounds like someone on the local level is making up rules as they go, which happens far too often.

I'll ask her about it when I see her again. She was sorta annoyed but resigned about it.

I wonder if too many clerks are scanning the form without verifying it against the packages and people are claiming lost package insurance claims for packages never shipped.

I tried to use the scan forms about a year ago & my mail carrier said then that they had to individually hand scan each package so I stopped using them. I thought it had something to do with their equipment but could have mis-understood him. It certainly would make things easier for him to use the scan form.

The only time I've ever used a scan form is when it was required via the USPS website, like on a RR box.

Maybe I'm just a lazy or crappy seller--but I have never, not once, even attempted to try and use a scan form. Ever.
Mine are hand scanned at the counter. Even when I drop them in the blue box or leave them on the counter, they all get scanned eventually.
And I remember a couple of years back, my lady at the counter told me the same thing. That they now had to scan each one when it was left.

I have never used a scan form but I don't do pickups at my house either.
Most of mine go into the drop box at the post office if it isn't jammed and they all get scanned.

I was told that if I put my things in the blue box AFTER their last stated pickup, they didn't guarantee its being scanned the same day. At my local PO they close at 5 and empty the box at 5. I won't take chances that it gets left till the next day so I always take it packages inside unless it's still early in the afternoon. ETA- Thinking about what I wrote, it sounds obvious but one local PO has its last box pickup at 3:30 and closes 2 hours later. That's the scenario I'm talking about. Sandra

My PO closes at 12:45 yes that's correct 12:45 so anything dropped after that doesn't get scanned until the next day. They tend to empty the box at about 12:30, there is never a line so I just walk them in or drop them off when I take the kids to school before the PO is opened. Either way they get scanned that day.

Well, I pass three PO's on the way to the thrift store so I stopped at a different one and asked him while he was scanning my form. He said "good heavens no!" and to please continue to use the forms because it makes their job so much easier. So I'll continue to print the forms; my local office can hand scan the packages as they wish.

... there is never a line .... I can't even imagine that! Well I guess that is a bit of an exaggeration saying never. Once in a great while there will be one person at the counter, probably twice a year LOL

... there is never a line .... I can't even imagine that! LOL, same here. Average wait would be 30-45 minutes. Thank goodness I never have to wait in line. We sometimes even have lines for the 3 APC's & our drive up mailbox is getting so full that by 1pm each day it's getting to be where stuff won't go down the chute. I was gonna call the postmaster & let them know they need to add another drive up box. There's plenty of room, so shouldn't be a problem, if they're willing to cough up the $$.
