It's National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. Do you need a new furry or feathered friend? Please consider adopting one from a shelter near you. House overflowing with furry or feathered friends? Please consider making a donation of money, supplies or your time to a shelter near you to help the animals that are not as lucky as yours. This PSA was brought to you by a clowder of precocious felines.

LOL You beat me to it, Shirley.
I sent in a donation to the Humane Society this morning to sponsor Tippi, one of my former fosters that is now up for adoption.

Love it!
I hope more people decide to adopt rather than buy from stores.

Our 3 furbabies weren't from a shelter, but were diverted on their way to a shelter. DH said he would find homes for all of them, and, well, he did...ours!!

Hootie picked me out at the shelter. He was in the shelter, though, not me.
That's our story and we're sticking to it.

My kiddos are rescues, but not from a shelter. Chloe was feral born, Quincy was found by a former co-worker who already had 3 cats and needed to find him a home. I don't know how anyone can walk in to a shelter and not come out with all of them.

I don't know how anyone can walk in to a shelter and not come out with all of them. That would be my problem. I'd go from kitty to kitty, remarking how this one reminds me of a pet that passed, then find another who reminds me of another pet. And on and on. Too tempting to bring home more than one. I'll stick with feeding the two strays on my street.
Speaking of which, the grey tabby has always been cautious and stand offish. Today she was on the garden wall two houses down and saw me come out the back door. She actually ran over to my yard and approached me. She didn't get too close but it's the closest she's ever come. And sat down with her tail wrapped around, listening to me compliment her. She'd probably still be there if my next door neighbor hadn't come out of her house.

Street rescues are good too. Anything to keep them out of the overcrowded shelter system.
Mine are about half street and half shelter rescues. They don't need to be purebred fancy critters to give you love and purrs.
Anymore if I go to the shelter it's just to pick up the Momkats I foster or to drop off supply donations. I have to stop myself from going and looking in the back or I would be going home with more cause it just breaks my heart to see them so sad in the cages, especially the old or damaged ones that nobody usually wants and are hard to place.

I agree fashion, he's a keeper. I told him when he retires and can take them out 4 - 5 times a day himself, he can have all he wants (within reason! ) We both keep spare leashes in our cars in case we see a lost dog. They come in handy.

Everyone once in a while, I think "I'd really like to have a (fill in dog breed/cat color here)." Then I laugh and think, who am I kidding? My next pet will be the needy one that picks me. Seems like that's how it works around here.
