Good morning, Virtual Sellers! Today is the 17th anniversary of the Red Hat Society. The group officially formed April 25, 1998 when Sue Ellen Cooper and a group of friends dressed in purple clothing and red hats and met for afternoon tea. Here's the poem that inspired the group: When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth.- from "Warning" by Jenny Joseph ( read the entire poem here) The RHS was also one of the more diligent members of Ebay's VeRO program. Have you ever received a VeRO takedown notice? Did you fight it? Share your stories here! p.s. This calls for cupcakes! (Then again, doesn't every day call for cupcakes?) (content courtesy of ahrncitygal - thanks!)

About 8-yrs ago I was befriended online by a local Red Hat Society lady. She eventually extended an invitation for me to join, but I somehow didn't feel like I'd fit in and declined. OTOH, I'm aware of their eBay VERO presence and had a "drats" moment in my fave TS a few weeks ago when I spotted a lovely RHS embellished T-shirt...and reluctantly returned it to the rack.

I've listed a number of items using RHS & have never once had a problem. Not a ton, but a few every year.
eta; those cupcakes look amazing!

I am going to Sams tomorrow to set up my Groupon membership and I get free cupcakes.
If they don't have good ones, I am going to wait until they get some that I like.
I had to break down and turn on the AC tonight for the first time this year. Thought I was going to make it until may but the humidity was too much tonight.
We are waiting on a big storm to come though later and it sent the humidity ahead of it.

Cupcakes are always in order. But even good cupcakes couldn't get me to join the Red Hats. The group here is a bunch of old biddies whose primary purpose seems to be to gossip about other members that aren't at meetings. For a group that is supposed to be about freedom in age they are small minded and just plain ol mean. Not my cup of tea at all. So I will take the cupcakes, and just knock those silly hats off the top before eating them.

No AC here today Kritter, I actually had to turn the heat on. It turned very cold and rainy and we had 40+ mph winds. But by Friday we are supposed to be pushing 90 degrees. This has been the weirdest year for weather, Mother Nature has been confused. I think she is hanging out in CO and enjoying a bit too much herb.

Shirley, I think your storm is headed this way. Its supposed to get here around 1:00 AM.
The weather map shows a line of storms right on the other side of Junction now.
Guess I'd better go out and batten down the cat pen.

If it's heading your way then best to batten down anything that moves. This was the worst wind we have had all spring, and we get some rotten winds here. I even took the head off the big yard spinner so it wouldn't get damaged. Stuff is all over the yard, but I have my guy coming tomorrow to clean up. We even lost some limbs off trees at a few of the rentals. I don't mind the rain, we will take all of that we can get. But add in the wind and the sudden cold and it was a miserable day.

We were supposed to be under a flash flood watch earlier today...but rain is just now hitting in bucketfuls, with gusting winds of 30 mph. And I've got a roof or 2 to worry about! Uh, oh...here's comes the thunder & lightning. May have to shut down.

Outer edge of the storm is now moving into Kerrville just north of us.
Got the cat pen flaps down. The outside cats are having a sleepover on the patio furniture.

I am sitting here on our new couch....finally! It was supposed to be delivered April 1st and we just got it today. They didn't get their shipment until way after they were supposed to. On a good note, they did waive the $70 delivery fee for the delay.
It is 11pm here and I have to be at work at 7:45 in the morning and I am not sleepy in the least, lol.
I don't know much about the red hat ladies. I've got a ways to go before I hit that age, lol.

What, no picture of the new couch? Bummer. We didn't get any wind (for once!), just rain and cold. A good bit of rain, too. Had lots of thunder yesterday, a little hail, but not much rain. More rain today. I'll have to move down your way, Shirley, so we can start a second RHL group for those ladies who just wanna have fun.

I've always loved the poem, but that VeRO business some years back turned me off the group completely. I don't know if there was a new person representing the RHS in the program at that time or what, but I remember for several months sellers were complaining of not being able to list a generic red hat without it being taken down. Then suddenly I never heard any more complaints about it. I'm sure they're still in VeRO but it seemed like something happened that caused them to be less vigilant. Maybe they realized they didn't own the word red or hat.
