Would it work to create a back drop from a 3 or 4 part room divider screen--the kind that is free standiing, something like www.amazon.com/Winsome-Wood-3-Panel-Folding-Screen/dp/B0046EC18A/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1429817257&sr=1-4&keywords=room+divider+screen or www.amazon.com/Legacy-Decor-4-panel-Screen-Divider/dp/B004YZT70G/ref=sr_1_7?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1429817558&sr=1-7&keywords=room+divider+screenI would still like to find a better set up for taking pictures at my place, but Kevin's lighting system blew fuses, I couldn't figure out how to put together the light boxes I ordered, and now I am just using natural light by the one sliding glass door that I have against a white wall, but the lighting comes in from one side so I still get shadows. If I used a free standing screen, I could set it directly in front of the sliding glass door and get more even lighting, I think. I was thinking about using a foam presentation board on top of a table which made me think about the room divider, because the presentation board on top of a table seems weird to use with the dress form standing in front of it. But the dress form would work in front of the room divider screen, but I don't like that the background wouldn't be flat so I was wondering if I could turn the hardware around on one side of a 3 part sceen to make the room divider similar to the foam presentation board. It probably would no longer fold up, but that's OK. I'm just not sure if it would stand up well enough if it was built similar to the presentation board. Any thoughts?

Looks promising, but I still have the same concern that the background wouldn't be flat. Not sure how pics would look but for sure this would be less expensive to try.

If you want a flat background, just clip a fleece throw or sheet to a rolling hanging rack then hang your item on the rack bar, or put your mani in front of the 'backdrop'. That's what I used to do. I do the same now except I have a hanging rod on one wall now, so it's a bit higher than the rolling rack was.

Another idea, I supplement my natural lighting with Kevin's lights and sometimes just a floor lamp that holds 3 bulbs at 3 levels, and I use 6500K daylight bulbs. It works well when one side is shadowed, as my window is to the left of the wall I have to use for picture background. So I put the floor lamp to the right side and angle the 3 lights as needed.

BTW, kevin's lights shouldn't be blowing fuses - your apartment/house has issues if the lights are doing that.

One of my backgrounds is material stapled to a folding screen similar to the 2nd one you listed. The only problem with it is that it isn't very all and doesn't work well with my mannequin.

I hadn't thought about it not being tall enough, but I only have a dress form and the body moves up and down on the pole so it might be ok that way; I will check. Other than that, does it work for you?
Val, I posted on the other board about the fuses tripping, and Angela gave me some things to look into (per her DH). My printer was also making it trip sometimes. I have since realized that when I have the fuse box cover closed is when it trips the printer. I haven't gone back and tried the shop lights since I figured out about the cover. I know it's still doesn't seem right that the cover being closed should make a difference, and I should ask them to look at it but just haven't. I failed to check the lease when I moved to make sure I can work from home/have an e-commerce business so am trying to keep a low profile, just in case.

Last summer I was all set to buy a 3-part folding screen like the Shoji at a garage sale...for $30. But SO ran his mouth at the wrong time and killed the potential sale when he po'd the guy. So, to improvise, I had him build me 2 lightweight support posts from his scrap wood pile. I have them spaced about 95 inches apart. They stand 69-inches tall with the addition of picket fence dog ears...and have a cheap, white twin sheet clamped to the tops. So long as I have good East sun in the morning, it works out well.

I have a TV armoire that we no longer use and couldn't seem to sell even for 50 bucks. We moved it into my office/ebay room and I keep folded jeans in the bottom half and boxes of shoes in the top half. I recently had DH pound two nails on the top of it. I bought a white shower curtain with grommets along the top edge. I hook it over the nails to use as a backdrop for photos. Very easy to remove and put back up again. I am on the lookout now for a darker color to use as a back drop for lighter color items. I think you could easily use the shower curtains with two nails on the wall or with two boards with nails on them. Just slide them under a bed when not in use.

For my darker items, I got 3 sheets of navy foam board at WM and sealed them together with packing tape on the back. A string at the top, and I hang it on the nail on my hall wall that also holds the 1/2 manni.
I hang it up on a nail on a wall in a spare bedroom for storage.
Can't get much cheaper than that. So one can also use 3 sheets of white foam board the same way.

Having a computer and a printer doesn't mean you have a home based business, you could be working on things for a regular office, afterhours, for all they know. It sounds like something is heating up in the fuse box, if it has no problems with the lid open. That's not good. I'd call. Correctly wired apartments don't have the issues you're reporting. Maybe hide the eBay inventory somewhere if you're worried about that aspect

From what I learned in PA, as long as you don't have customers coming to your residence for your business, you are okay.
