Yesterday it was a Valentines extravaganza in HEB with flowers, balloons, candy, and baked goods. They must be expecting a major sales event today and tomorrow. According to the HEB employee I chatted with this past Friday, yup, they're expecting a busy day. I bought a 4 pack of chocolate dipped strawberries rolled in pecans and coconut. They're OK but I don't think I'll buy them again. I'm just not into dipped strawberries - berries tend to get mushy and the ones I bought yesterday were borderline tasteless. The Valentine's mini cupcakes are sooooooo much better

Well, my store is totally onboard with fulfilling whatever anybody needs for that special day with the exception of jewelry. They are taking full advantage of the expanded floral department and bakery department.

Got our first snow last nite. Doesn't look like too much stuck in Manhattan as per the trees and shrubs out back, even though we were promised a nor'easter.

Hi, hope everyone is doing ok. Seems like the week is getting away from me already. I spent all day Sunday with my sister. I told her to work me and she did lol. I cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, did 3 loads of laundry, changed sheets, swept and mopped all the floors, dusted, cooked her a meal, did the dishes, took out the trash, you name it. Plus I brought some leftovers and goodies for her, too. She was really appreciative. And I slept like a rock Sunday night lol. Her kids have been getting her stuff, and her DD in Tenn has been sending Amazon and Costco orders to her too. Unfortunately she seems to have picked up a cold from her oldest DD and nothing like having a fracture in your neck with a cough and mucus She has a follow up at the dr next Thurs. It looks like she'll have the neck brace for about 6 weeks. It's bigger than I realized and really limits movement. But of course she is being very careful to heal as well as possible. The lawyer is doing his thing, the lady did have insurance but all the cars involved will be looking to that insurance, so not sure how it will all play out.
It was really warm here this weekend, we had on shorts and the A/C on, then it got chilly Sunday night. They said rain Saturday and Sunday but we really only got a few bouts of really light rain. I noticed my Rose of Sharon are leafing out already! Warm weather is always lurking here lol.
VV usually has a 1/2 off sale for President's day here, so I am hoping they will announce it soon, and that will pretty much take up my weekend plans. I need to start getting out spring inventory but haven't talked myself into it yet

I'm fine with it pausing the rain for a while and hitting upper 40s.
When it snows to any extent, though (not very often) we just stay home. Our little road doesn't get ploughed and neither does the road it gives on to. Getting in and out is a real trip. I've used snowshoes more than once, along with a neighbour, and others get out on X-country skis. A lot of roads are just blocked off by the city - they've got 10% grades and no one is going there. They get taken over by kids of all ages on various sleds. Once I saw a couple of little kids using someone's big roasting pan!
Apparently there's a nor'easter due on the middle Atlantic/New England area. I need to text my relatives and see how they're doing.

Big score on chicken drumettes. They were reduced down to .99 a pound so half off yesterday's price. Had to go through the bakery to get to the chicken wings so picked up two 12 pks. of Valentine cupcakes. Taking them to my vet's office tomorrow because I like to remind them how much I appreciate them especially when I call for an emergency appointment.

Your store must have really overordered on the wings, Kritter. I was at the Evans/281 store and all forms of chicken wings were at the usual price

Pretty much a "Go big or go home" store now that the sq. footage has increased so much with the remodel. It is going to be interesting to see how much Valentine stuff is left over especially in the floral department. A lot of Valentine Simple Meals are going to be on sale because I don't think the sell through rate on them is going to warrant the amount available.

We got 6-8 inches of wet snow. Rained until 5 AM and then it snowed hard and fast. A lot of it melted quickly. Hubby cleaned off my car and snow blowed the driveway. Roads were clear by the time I made it to work. Not sure if our shift will get time and a half or not.

That heart shaped steak looks, well, weird. I will give it an "A" for imagination. I noticed quite a few guys had that heart steak in their basket at checkout when I was at HEB today. Lines were long, lots of guys shopping and flowers being sold The store I was at is huge, one of their larger stores, and Valentine's stuff was looking thin on the display areas. I think the sales may vary by store though. I was surprised at the number of guys in this particular store shopping solo for V-day, since it really caters more to the suburban family demographic and has lots of bulk size stuff. I scored a dozen of the mini Valentines cupcakes so life is good

I told hubby not to bother getting a card this year. They are getting so expensive and we just look at them and toss them. May go out to eat in a few weeks.

I get cards at Dollar Tree or Temu. "Customizing" off season cards can be pretty funny. DH gets images off various sites and makes up his own cards which are hysterical.
We celebrated Valentine's Day last Friday because of my work schedule, which is now 5 days a week, but at least the extra 2 shifts are 4 hours each. Fingers, toes and legs crossed we find someone who is capable of working 2 days a week to actually do the job and not sleep through it.

Ugh-my daughter texted that police are searching for someone in the area of my Grandson's school and the school is on lockdown.
Have my cell scanner on, but no information. Posts on Facebook, also seeking info.

That's a great idea! Stay on them about hiring, Stay, or they may end up slotting you into those two shifts permanently Cloudy, humid and mid-60s here today.

I went out walking today. I bought a used pr of Icebug trail/running shoes with studs for $40 on eBay. Most of the sidewalks were free of ice and snow but some had not been cleared. This gave me a chance to buy the shoes to make sure the size was correct and also walk on sidewalks instead of the street with my dog. I prefer street walking when alone but use the sidewalks when I have a dog with me.
Shoes did their intended job. They fit fairly well. I have wide feet. Bought a half size up.

Nope. I had to assure the captain I'm fine with doing the extra time because she's worried I'll get pissed and quit. I told her not to worry about me. We both agree instead of hiring out of desperation, take her time with interview and I'll listen in and we'll compare notes so she won't be wasting time training another loser. The 10am-2pm shift at least lets me stay up and snooze in in the morning so I'm happy with that. It will be nice when I do get my Wed. and Thurs. off again. Not complaining about the extra in my paycheck.

Authorities say Horn opened hundreds of accounts with those companies, rented pieces worth thousands of dollars, refused to return them and then sold them online.
Not the brightest thing to do.

I hope she gets the maximum sentence for every charge. The lack of conscience makes me shake my head what people do that they know full well is wrong wrong wrong.

The companies attempted to charge Horn for the items she stole, but she avoided those charges by disputing them with her credit union or canceling the credit and debit cards she had provided to the victim companies, the complaint said.
You'd think the bank would have caught this. Guess not.

Everything okay at your grandsons school Denise? Yes, thanks. The police tried to serve a warrant and the guy ran away and was armed. They tracked him and he was seen about 2 miles from the school. So the lock-down was lifted.
He hasn't been caught yet, as far as I know.

I thought the two big, burly, kind of rough looking characters chatting near the condiments section about making a really good baked chicken and what to have for sides was kind of sweet. Nothing here for V-day save I had a couple of beers - the DH had to attend an evening seminar. We're going to actually go out this weekend when we're up north in Bellingham to go hiking. I decided against the off-road race there - the DH was willing to disrupt plans to accommodate, but then we wouldn't be able to do a hard loop hike we had planned (I'm just not that fit). I think it'll be better to just do it next year - I might be able to talk my running friend into doing it, too. We're already signed up for the Honolulu Marathon again (I'm signed up for the 10k, though - I've realised that I'm just too danged creaky to run marathons - too much fun on mountainbikes when I was younger).
Denise - I'm glad all is well at the school!
Wings here are like $5 per pound. Food has always been expensive here, though - we're at the end of the supply line.

We have a similar issue at my office. We desperately need a good bookkeeper, and my boss is the one who needs to do the interviews. The Sr partner has no idea what to look for and tends to hire bookkeepers who look good on paper (easy to do) but really don't know what they're doing. Unfortunately, my boss is bad about using her time to get the 1040 returns out. I strongly suggested she get a temp 1040 preparer from Robert Half, and use her time instead to get a bookkeeper, as that's the harder thing and it's a more critical need. Temp 1040 tax preparers are pretty easy to find, and tax returns can be extended. We can't take on new bookkeeping clients (and therefore new business tax returns, where the real profit is) as all current bookkeepers can't really take on any more clients. My patio rug came in, woo hoo. I hope it looks as good on the patio as it did on the website Computer monitor stands come in tomorrow, hopefully that will help with my shoulder/neck issue. It's better but hasn't totally gone away
