Good luck Val! Yay me! I just saw my thoracic surgeon and the highly suspicious lung spot is almost gone! So it isn't cancer, and most likely from the respiratory thing that I had a few months ago. Kind of weird that a brief cold-type thing can mess up the lungs... I do have a new 7mm spot beside my heart, but it is most likely nothing. Will see my oncologist tomorrow for another follow-up, to see what he wants to do about the new spot. But I would have to wait for a few months before being able to get another CT scan. Great news about the lung. Hopefully the heart is nothing.

The other spots are usually ignored, unless 3 months later they are still there and growing.

Next door has a cute patio. I don't know how it's going to look lit up, but it's a cute theme. He put up a fake brick wall on the back and one side wall of the patio, then has a red patio settee with some wrapped gifts on it. Really big snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, and a fake snow carpet on the floor. It looks really cute. I don't remember if he also had a Christmas tree on the patio or not. Good luck, val. I see a trophy in your near future! No trophy. Just a HEB gift card. Better than a trophy IMO Apartment office sent out an email this afternoon reminding everyone who is participating in the contest to be sure they have their lights turned on between 6:00-6:30 pm. I guess if you aren't using a timer, a reminder would be good to get

HEB gift card is so much better that a trophy. Not even a close call.
Good luck, Val. Paws crossed here.

WOO HOO! I won first place in the patio contest! Next door dropped to 3rd. There was a tie for 3rd, their unit and another. I like that the office is open to ties and adding an extra gift card. The office told me last year that sometimes there is grumbling about the winners, from the losers. But from what assorted neighbors have told me, I don't think there will be grumbling this year. I seem to be the only one who went overboard I already have ideas for next year (so I can buy lights when I see them at a good price, LOL). I just can't decide between a red/green/white candy cane theme or a blue/white snowflake/ice theme. Both themes let me use some of the lights I already have. No way am I buying ALL new lights for an apartment balcony

You are spreading a lot of holiday cheer, I just love it!
Denise, I'm so glad for the good news for you! You are always in my prayers.
We are gray and coolish today. I went ahead and mowed the yard this morning, it looks so much better. And my toe did fine, a bit tender afterwards, but it was fine. I made my last trip to Kroger this morning. It always makes me a little sad that everything is so festive and when I go next week it will be just normal again. I guess that's what makes the holidays special, but I always feel a bit let down when it's all over. Of course they'll probably already have Valentines stuff out
I had one package going out this morning, it was a surprise, really, this close to Christmas. It was a good sale, though. I'd be surprised if I get anymore before Christmas. But sometimes I have a little surge after Christmas. I guess people get gift cards, cash, what have you.
I have 2 half off VV cards I earned, and they are good the 26th through the 31st, so I will have two thrift trips next week. Two different stores. Hopefully I'll find a few good things. I also have a $40 gift card for each that I bought for myself to earn the 1/2 off cards for January

Waiting for my cousin to pick me up so we can do flowers at the cemetery.
So much to do, so little time.

HEB had fresh turkey breasts so I managed to snag one that is small enough for my large slow cooker. You can get fresh whole turkeys, but just the breast is hard to find fresh. I like fresh turkey because it isn't brined in salt and therefore not insanely high in sodium. I've made it before in the slow cooker and it's awesome. Juicy and not dry at all. I use this recipe: www.recipetineats.com/juicy-slow-cooker-turkey-breast/HEB was a mad house. People everywhere, and waaaaay too many were blocking aisles. Arrgghh. I'm glad that's done until after Christmas. I can only imagine what it's going to be like tomorrow and Saturday in the grocery store

We picked up our standing rib roast this morning. It is already seasoned. I told hubby he forgot the milk for the mashed potatoes so I will either stop tonight or tomorrow, or he will stop tomorrow night,
Went out of my comfort zone a bit. Shoprite has a sale on angus rib roast plus the digital coupon so I also bought an unseasoned roast for New Years. Bone in Angus beef rib roast is on sale for $10.99 a pound plus the digital coupon for $4 off a pound. So I got a 7.5 pound roast for $6.99 a pound. It will give us a few days of rib roasts!
We are doing Christmas dinner Saturday. I am working Sunday thru Thursday. My normal schedule every week. We make good money next week until the third.
We did not buy gifts for each other. We normally buy what we want all year round, although money has been tight this year. Our gift is the two rib roasts.

People were complaining about Costco being a mad house. It is bad enough on regular days. Rude people standing side by side 2-3 abreast shopping together. Blocking the isles. Glad I have enough dog food for a while yet.

That looks good Val. I plan to try Aldi turkey breasts. WM breasts are rolled and fatty. I don't think that normal turkey breasts have that much fat???
Rib roasts sound good too. My daughter will cook a ham.
Well, I found out for sure today that I am BRCA2 positive. I have been asking about it for 22 years. I had a test 6 years ago that said that I was positive, but my NP said that the percentage wasn't very high. My onc. saw it in my report and ordered more testing. I had a gynie appt after I saw my onc, and now she wants me to get preventative surgery on my ovaries and tubes. I think that I am too old for any surgery now. But my daughter will now get tested. At least now I know why I have BC.

My husband’s sister has the genes (not sure about the other one). She had breast reduction surgery. Their sister died of cancer at the age of 31 back in 1998 or 1999.

I don't really understand whether it is a mutation or gene problem. I will drop off my Guardant report with my gynie on my way to chemo today. And I will ask my chemo nurse to leave a note for my onc. I am in no hurry to have surgery.

((((Denise)))) Bad news but then good news.
Congratulations, Val!
Hello from Norwich (East Anglia). This is at all times a busy town with people bustling around, but it gets downright febrile in the run up to Christmas- it's a big deal in England but the emphasis is more on feasting and special events like concerts, fairs, panto, stuff for kids, etc. And decorating - the place is ablaze with lights.
We did some property looking today, then braved the shops. I actually saw two women wearing spike heels, walking along over these old cobbles and brick streets that make up a lot of downtown - you almost never see that - they must have ankles of sprung steel, but people are dressed up.
We've got two hikes planned for this weekend.

I wish I could get my family on board with this idea. All they ever want is cash or gift cards anyway, and everyone gives about the same amounts so it's really senseless to me, but hey, what do I know.

I have discovered the point of "you've over decorated, stop!" I tried some red amaryllis and white poinsettia clips in the tall fake ficus tree. Nope. Not happening I did hang some ecualyptus garland over the breakfast bar and 2 doorways though. I talked myself out of it a few weeks ago, then realized I can leave the garland up all year, I just have to remove the ornaments. So now I have hanging garland Kritter, did you see the coupon for HEB baked goods (including your fave, cupcakes)? As soon as next door moves their car from the no parking/loading zone in front of my unit, I'm moving my car there. I need to load up the GW stuff and get it out of here. Once I do that, the cats and I can enjoy a tidy apartment for the holiday. No stuff everywhere sucking up the energy.

Yes, I did and took advantage. Never miss a coupon in the bakery section.
I was at my HEB today and there was more confusion in the parking lot than the store. The store is so big now that with the crowd there, it wasn't bad. Even with people in some of the smaller aisles and workmen doing their jobs, everybody was smiling and and saying "Excuse me". We are a fairly congenial sort over here plus I think after the past year with all the remodeling going on, everybody just goes with the flow in that store. All 10 check stands plus the Quick Check were open and no lines checking out. Noticed several HEB corporate guys there and they were helping with bagging at the checkouts.

Dang. I should have gone to that store yesterday. Mine was crowded and everyone was grumpy Fortunately most cleared out about halfway thru my shopping and the remaining folks were much nicer. I decided to splurge and order from Torchy's Tacos tonight. I'm cooking real food tomorrow (mock pot roast) and a turkey with healthy sides on Monday, so junk it was today. Well, Torchy's isn't really junk, one taco I got was fajita and another was veggie, so the only "junk" one was the trailer trash taco (friend chicken tender) It's my Christmas present to myself We picked up our standing rib roast this morning. It is already seasoned. I told hubby he forgot the milk for the mashed potatoes so I will either stop tonight or tomorrow, or he will stop tomorrow night, Went out of my comfort zone a bit. I've never had standing rib roast. I googled it to see what it was. It looks good. I'm not a prime rib fan though, so I don't see a rib roast in my future I bet it's a gorgeous presentation at the table though!

Well, today is a busy day for me. Tomorrow is our annual open house/buffet. Weather is not looking great so I'm not sure who will be coming and who won't be. At this age I am just going to try and enjoy it and not stress about it. I can't do anything about the weather. I tried to get the Wii and Super Nintendo set up yesterday since outside is looking less likely. Couldn't get either one going. I don't think either is reading the games. Maybe DS can help, maybe not. I hope he is still coming, due to the weather and he lives farther now. We have a nerf shooting game and magnetic darts, they will have to do.
Monday I am making Christmas dinner for my sister and DS. Roasting a chicken, since neither prefer ham. I froze the dressing from Thanksgiving, so some mashed potatoes and corn ears in the air fryer and we'll be good. Oh and I froze the rolls from Thanksgiving, too. Anything to make it easier!
So I probably won't be back here till the day after Christmas. I want to wish everyone a Wonderful Holiday! No matter what the weather where you are, with whoever and however you are celebrating it. I hope it is lovely for all

CONGRATS, VAL!!!!!! The cream rises to the top!
((((denise)))) I wouldn't rush to have preventive surgery; there's such a thing as watchful waiting, no? And with the chemo drugs you are on, that may be preventive enough. Of course, you may be significantly younger than I.
Sitting here snuggling on the couch with the psychopoodle. She is so loving. Silent day, all is calm if not bright. I sent my daughter her box of presents (25 lbs! for Xmas and birthday) which I collect for her throughout the year, then on Christmas we will Facetime as she opens them. It's our harkening back to her childhood. Then I used to decorate a pretty incredible tree, if I say so myself, with presents all in different wrapping. A very old fashioned Christmas. We were never much for cooking, just eating, so the object was to get to the pies after a perfunctory chicken. Nothing much happening now but I think I am content. I'll be watching episodes of "Homicide for the Holidays" this week and playing two computer adventure games I bought myself. Next week, a birthday dinner for my best friend with our group o' pals at a delicious French restaurant. No complaints.
May you all have a beautiful holiday with lots of love and good food.

@sunset ... We just exchange gift cards too and I am fine with that. My grandson likes money. None of us really needs anything, although my grandson has about 20 pairs of expensive shoes and wants more. He is almost wearing my daughter's size, so she will soon be sporting some awesome sneakers.
@frak....thanks, but I am 74. And any surgery will cause me to take off 6 weeks from chemo....not a good thing.
It's 52 degrees here today and will be as warm on Christmas. I am good with that, since I hate to drive to my daughter's house in the snow.
Unfortunately, my ex will be at my daughter's for dinner, and I am sure that we will get into an argument. His mother died 11 1/2 years ago and her house behind me has been empty ever since. My daughter has been wanting to buy out my ex's brother's half and my ex had told her that she could have his half for free, since she would inherit it anyway. But now he has raised the price and wants her to pay him for her eventual inheritance. He certainly doesn't need the money and she has her college loan, mortgage and new car payments to deal with. Ex has lived for free since our divorce with his girlfriend, so he was able to accumulate a lot of money. And that will also go to my daughter eventually. So why make her pay him $95,000 now? And the house, which was built in the 50's needs a ton of work. Her present house is really nice but has a tiny yard, and MIL's house has 3 acres of land.
