Jes, I am reasonably sure I have turf toe. Podiatrist said it is arthritis but years of puppies and dogs bouncing off my feet have done severe damage to my left big toe.
Sometimes it feels like it is out of joint. I can’t put any weight on it until it settles back in to where it should be. I can’t try putting it back either. Hurts like crazy.

Chap, I believe everything happens for a reason and it will probably wind up being a good thing you opted for the 10k instead of marathon, especially with trip to England a week later. Still getting in a race plus being able to enjoy Hawaii will probably be more memorable, having time to enjoy it before flying back.
I find it hard to believe today is the day to throw out Thanksgiving leftovers instead of Monday. I have a rule here day 3 is the last day for pretty much any leftovers in fridge and tossed day 4. Especially something like turkey that, by 6 days, is growing a pretty good bacteria colony. If there's a lot left, in the freezer the "overage" goes no later than next day after serving.

Having been born and raised a Florida girl, I didn't see my first snowfall until I was 19 and we spent Christmas vacation in Baltimore when my mother went back to school to get her Masters. It was so magical and thrilling! Still, I'd love to see those frozen bubbles, never heard of that. It doesn't get -0 ever in NYC (good thing, I guess).

We had snow yesterday. Came out of the doctor's office to see it coming down hard, enough that I had to put the wipers on. But when I got closer to my area, it had stopped. Too early for snow. We usually get it at the end of December and then all of Jan/Feb.
Last night was 20 degrees and the furnace was running full steam ahead. There goes the heating oil bill, it really hasn't been too bad so far.

Trixie likes the new cat cave. Which is surprising, because she doesn't usually like the caves.

The 10k ends at the Honolulu Zoo :-) The start is at 5:00 a.m. - I'll be done with the 10k probably around 6:15 - 6:25 a.m. (it takes a while to get 30,000 people all through the chute and I'll be toward the back of the mob) - we'll be running the 10k in the dark as sunrise on Oahu isn't until almost 7:00 a.m., so that will be weird and kind of cool, and it'll be in the 70s no matter what, it won't get any colder overnight, so just shorts and a tank top. This will be all very strange for a Pac NW'er - it's chilly here at night no matter what the season. All I'll need is my little gear bag - throw a change of clothing in there and some extra underwear - no raincoats, gore-tex boots, etc., like when I rode my bike around The Big Island some years back - it was April and sometimes the rain was torrential.

Roofers are here today replacing our roof. It's loud and it's going to get louder. I have an appointment later this morning, so I'll be leaving the house. After the appointment, I'm going to hang out at my son's apartment, which is about 30 minutes away.

jesmelric - you are not fragile! Anyone can twist a toe like that - I swear, toes must be the most banged up, stubbed parts of the human body. All it means is that you're motoring around about your business - this kind of thing happens, and I hope it heals up quickly. I'd love to be 57 again, though - that's some years ago for me.
Normall Well this does make me feel a bit better about it I do have big feet, too It's still pretty sausage-y I still can't put on a regular shoe, it squeezes it too much. Thank goodness for my big ugly crocs lol. Normally I do an exercise video 4 days a week and my recumbent stationary bike 2 days a week. Since I can't wear a regular shoe and I feel exercising in the crocs would be another trip hazard, I'm doing the bike every day. It's not my favorite, probably because it pushes me harder, lol. But I really should just appreciate that I do have a way to exercise. I've been walking Janey 2 miles every day still, but that's not really exercise more of a meander
It's raining on and off here. I took Janey out early to try and avoid the rain (not feeling walking in crocs with socks in the rain) and her light up collar fell off. Luckily I went out a bit later and back tracked and found it. I live between 3 schools with a fourth down the road and there's a lot of morning traffic so visibility is really important.
Chap, I hope you have a lovely trip to England I hope you will be posting photos. My oldest daughter travels quite a bit, and it's really fascinating to see the photos. She went to England and Scotland this past spring. They had a wonderful time.

How do people make it in this economy? Went to BJs today. Spent $750 on meat and groceries. Granted this was a big stock up shopping event. Did not get much meat (6 packs of meat including 2 packs of rib eyes) because they hadn’t put fresh stuff out yet. No dish soap, no detergent or anything like that. A lot of condiments, dry goods like rice, pasta, etc. No bread or anything like that.
Still have to get pork chops, mustard, big box of Splenda, creamer, and some other stuff you can’t get at BJ’s. Maybe $200 worth of other stuff.
Yes, it will last quite some time but the price of stuff is unbelievable.
The only reason I stocked up now was because I had the cash from my Hallmark ornaments otherwise we would have scraped by until the end of January.

The only way I keep things stocked up here is through sales, markdowns, clearance, closeouts, coupons and price comparisons. I use black marker to write month and year on top of canned goods to make it easy to see at a glance when they expire and use up before that date.
I also shop thrift stores, "dollar" stores and shop online for sales, markdowns and clearance for most other things.
I'm very fortunate to have a part time job that helps "ease the squeeze".

I tend to eat really simple foods - brown rice, veg, some kind of protein source (not meat), dairy products and some fruit, so my bill is a little higher because of somewhat higher prices on everything and of course fruit is seasonal so that can get high, but it hasn't been bad. What we HAVE noticed is our Costco bill for household goods and the DH's wine has gone up, so that's where it hits our pocketbook. The DH has his own eating habits, which are pretty different from mine. I try to watch the sales, too, but not a lot. If I were feeding a family it would be a different matter. It's too bad so many corporations are so drunk on wallet-busting profits that they're continuing to manipulate the inflationary pressures, so we have a sort of fakeflation. We've got almost freezing rain now (oh boy!!) - in the morning hovering just above the freezing mark. Some of the rivers might start overflowing by this weekend. The DH was able to ride to work, though took it easy in some of the turns. I went and ran on the treadmill at the gym yesterday - couldn't bring myself to huff along in that cold wather. jesmelric - I hope your toe heals soon!

I'm glad I waited a week to put the outdoor lights up. We're supposed to be in the low 70s Saturday, so that will be nice. I can't decide if I want to put multicolor regular icicle lights on the back wall of my patio at the top where it meets the ceiling, multicolor meteor shower lights, or use the C9 lights I already have. I only need one strand. I kind of like the idea of the meteor lights. The color changing would look cool on the wall, and all of the other lights I'm using are steady (no blinking or twinkling). The meteor lights would stand out a bit. In case you don't know what meteor lights are: I saw some on one apartment in the complex last year and they were really cool looking. Raccoons are back again. The critter guy was out here yesterday installing a one way trap at the latest opening. I think they're back in building 7 across the parking lot as well. He was over there too, up on the roof. At least now they can narrow down the access points faster. The building exteriors were renovated this past summer, so the only place left for the stupid critters is the roof. Unfortunately it's expensive to replace tile roofs so I suspect the critters might be an ongoing issue. *sigh* Still, they're catching them quicker than back in the spring so it's not all bad.

I love those meteor lights. Glad you posted the video, Val, because I would have really wondered what they were if I saw them around here.

Those meteor lights are really neat! I never saw them or even heard of them. I lead a very sheltered life.

Hubby is putting up the outside Christmas lights. Nothing fancy.
Feels so cold today. Ugh.
Went for a short trip to Walmart. Don’t shop there often though. They had everything else on my list so I was happy. I have started cutting back on big brand makeup. First was foundation. Next was eyeliner. Just a hassle asking them to open up the cabinet for makeup remover and eyeliner. Then they ring it up right there.
And of course I forgot they don’t supply bags so I bagged everything at the car.
BJs and Costco have the combination pack of NyQuil and Daycare. I hate that. Just sell the NyQuil. So I got that at Walmart.

I'm glad that the stores don't have stuff locked up here. What a pain that would be.

You can do curbside pickup and never have to go in the store. If you do go in the store, at least the makeup isn't locked up. Some grocery stores are competitive in their makeup prices too, and don't lock it up. Well, not here anyway.

The borough crowd goes into Walmart to steal. Very irritating. I was going into Walmart for other things so I bought the makeup while I was in there. I like their generic makeup remover towelettes. I do shop at Target. Just happened to need grocery items and our Walmart is a Super Walmart.
Also I checked Amazon’s price for eyeliner and a few other things and they are cheaper.

Oh LAWDY - we're all wrung out here after the Huskies v Ducks game. The Huskies finally took the championship 34-31, and the Ducks rode them the entire time, battling back from a 10 point deficit to pull ahead, and the Huskies were desperately fighting in the last quarter. Then Penix made a slick pass to an unknown tight end that the Husky coach just slipped into the game, who walzed it over the line for a touchdown, and they started pulling ahead again in the last minutes.
The scenes on the field were very moving. One of the Ducks just sat on the bench with his head bowed and a towel over it - I saw his shoulders shaking, another was trying to hide tears, wiping them away. One of the Ducks and one of the Huskies were tightly hugging each other - turns out they had both played on the Huskies, but when they changed coaches, one went to the Ducks, and they were still friends. The Ducks have nothing to be ashamed of in their game - it wouldn't have been so good if they hadn't played so brilliantly, the Huskies just outsmarted them that bit, but it had to have been a heartbreaker.
The DH is hoarse and a bit teary eyed, and I expect there will be loads of celebration in the pubs here tonight! I also wonder if the announcer actually lost his voice again from having to shout over the crowd - they played in Las Vegas but the stands were filled with Husky purple and Ducks green.
Last game of the storied and century old Pac-12. People are still upset by it being broken up.

Hubby soldered the spring into one of my ornaments that broke during shipping. It was in the battery compartment and held the battery in place. I re-listed it yesterday. It works.
