Another month is almost over. I'm enjoying the cooler temperatures. Today in history: On Oct. 29, 1929, “Black Tuesday” descended on the New York Stock Exchange. America's Great Depression began. On a happier note, in 2015, China announced the end of their one-child policy after 35 years. Do you recognize this man, born on October 29, 1942?

Pretty picture, Emerald!
Ugh-we might get the "s" word on Wednesday. The only good thing about it is that maybe I won't have to mow anymore. And that's the ONLY good thing about it. Okay, it is kind of pretty as long as I don't have to drive in it.

Our neighbor’s tree dropped leaves like a rainfall yesterday. Ugh. Maybe hubby will mulch inside the fence later this afternoon.

Emerald: the pic is the artist guy on PBS right? The one with the soothing voice while he shows you how to paint? I forget his name...but they made a chia pet out of him too.

Bob Ross. Liked painting "happy little trees".

That's Bob Ross. I learned how to paint from him. I was always so afraid of goofing up but he taught how to turn mistakes into "happy accidents"! Got enough confidence to explore other types of painting.
Our weather went from 75 on Friday to 45 yesterday. So DH and I decided to take a drive. So we threw a lunch into a cooler, took the dog, and went down some roads we haven't been down before. The leaves here are pretty much at their peak and even though it was cloudy the colors were gorgeous! We have always liked to take off for a drive every now and then, just to detach from everything and have a chance to talk to each other without any interruptions. Very mind cleansing!

That's great that you learned to paint from him. I watched him a few times but never attempted to do what he was doing.

I did watch Bob Ross a lot. I had a Jon Gnagy art set, which is probably still up in my attic. I used to draw pretty well, back in the day.

He looked familiar - his style of teaching sounds very good!
I ran a 10k today and managed to post a PR and come over the finish line not completely blown out, but on the way home was feeling a little pummeled. Thing is, I ran this one faster than one I did in my late 50s which made me feel really good. My running friend is very encouraging. I'll credit Orangetheory Fitness for helping me with pacing, which is what I really needed. So runners love good beer and we were out for pints afterwards. I'm such a lightweight that I stuck to just the 12 oz glasses lol. They had a therapeutic effect on my legs. BTW, my PR is still pretty slow - there's no way I can be not 70 years old, but some of the olde fartes really move fast! I'm still mid-pack even then but considering how creaky I am, I'll take it!
We still have nice leaves on our trees and are having a series of beautiful, crisp fall days (we do have an actual autumn, but you can't blink or it's gone, but while it's here, it's very nice), but the storms rolling in soon will slap all of those into masses of sludge on the streets and roads. Probably Wednesday.

My coworker’s wife and daughter ran in the Marine’s Marathon in DC yesterday. They drove down there.
Chap, do you take a spare pair of shoes and socks if running a marathon? George was going to cheer them on at several places. I told him to take spare shoes for them. Maybe socks too? Looks like they both finished in 6 hr 2 min.

Hi, everyone. Well I can't complain about the heat today! Yesterday it was close to 90 and today it's windy and gray and drizzly and in the 50s. Talk about an abrupt change It was still warm in the house this morning so I was sweating while bundling up to take Janey out, but once I headed out I was glad I layered up.
We went to the bins yesterday. I don't know how they get the stuff they get, but it's so random. Yesterday was pants day lol. Tons of pants and jeans. Men's, women's, kid's. Sweat pants, jeans, khakis, dress pants, you name it. No high end brands or anything. I found a few things. Also somehow they came into someone's Western movies and books collection. Tons and tons of dvds, and even vhs taps. John Wayne galore and tons of others too. Just really weird. It wasn't too crowded either which is a first for as far as when we've gone.
We went to Aldi's Saturday. I was hoping they might have the advent calendars out but I guess I am a bit early. I love to get Janey the dog one every year.
Chap if you ran a 10K, you can't be too creaky! I could walk a 10k pretty well, but run? No way! And I'm 57. I would say you are in excellent shape!
Glad no one's had a problem with the Shingles Vaccine. We will do it over DH's Xmas vacation. Online it says second one 2 to 6 months after. I guess I'll wait to see what they tell us.

Ah ha. The cats have finally figured out the warm room in the apartment is the office They're all in here lounging around. I put the heater on 69-70 for the apartment, and then use a space heater in whatever room I'm actually in. The cats were all huddled up in the other (chilly) rooms so I told them to come to the office because it was warmer. They did. Who says cats don't understand humans?

Looks like they both finished in 6 hr 2 min. labbypaws - I don't, myself, because there's nowhere to carry anything. If someone is meeting me at the finish it would be nice to have a spare pair of socks and shoes, though, just to give the feet a break! When I did RAMROD the second time (that bike ride my DH did some weeks back), it was really hot out. I went over the finish line, then went to the snacks area, took my shoes and socks off and stuck my feet into the ice water where the cans of pop were stored - I made sure no one saw me sneaking around back behind the picnic table lol (the ice was not supposed to be consumed, and in fact I saw someone else do the same thing). That felt like heaven on my poor old tired dogs! My running friend I'm almost positive has done the Marine's Marathon at least once. I'm hoping to finish the Honolulu in about 6 hours or so - we'll see. I'm kind of defying belief in probability to think I can finish it at all, but I've got the bit between my teeth now. Val - PR is 'personal record'. jesmelric - I find walking harder than running - it takes different muscles and TBH, more work to keep up that speed rather than running where momentum can carry you. Particularly power walking - it's like hiking in that respect.

I had one almost step out in front of my Cube on the way home and no, I didn't brake or slow down. I loathe those hideous creatures. Bet it stole the candy in the pumpkin, too.

I didn't buy any Halloween candy. I didn't get any trick or treaters the past two years and I don't expect any tonight. The complex is next door to a very nice, upscale neighborhood. If I were a parent living here, that's where I'd take my kids to trick or treat. I did give in and buy some HEB Halloween cookies though. They're pretty good. It was sunny and 60 here today - a nice day. We have a food truck at the office today. I'm waffling over getting a philly cheese steak or not.

I doubt any kids will be out tonight. It was in the 30s when I left for work at 5am and never made it past 42 all day. The wind was arctic cold. Looking forward to improvement Thurs. through weekend mid to upper 50s for highs. It's too early to be this cold.

Chicken tacos from Willies won out over the deli food truck. I may regret that though. My order's been placed for over 5 minutes now and there's no runner assigned to it yet - that's never happened before. I didn't think about Favor possibly being short staffed due to Halloween. Oops. Guess I'll just wait and see. We're supposed to be back in to our normal mid 70s by the weekend.

My cousin lives near Columbus Ohio and it is snowing right now.
We don’t do Halloween. Hubby is bunkered on the lower level of the house.

My grandson stopped in briefly in his clown costume, before meeting friends to trick or treat. I gave him $$ in a card and 3 cans of his favorite Progresso wedding soup. My daughter just wrote to me to say that in spite of all of his candy, he is eating the soup. LOL And she is getting into his candy. I do miss sneaking candy out of my daughter's pumpkin containers. I didn't get any Halloweeners, as usual.

I am so thankful I didn't have to go to work this morning at 5am. Woke up to around an inch of that white stuff coating everything except the pavement. I know eventually I will have to drive in and on it, just not mentally prepared for it yet. It's supposed to go up to 42 today so should start melting off in an hour or so. 8am and the sky is already blue with bright "creamsicle" colored clouds. Might as well do laundry at MIL's since I haven't seen her in over 2 weeks.

We have about 2 inches of the white stuff this morning. I am not happy about that! I guess that I will keep the sheets on my flowers until Thursday. After that, it should only go down to the 40's at night.

Chilly here, finally. Doing a happy, happy, happy dance. Had just a few trick or treaters so...I guess someone will have to eat all that delicious leftover candy. And it is delicious. Reeses cups, Almond Joy, Kit Kats and Hershey's bars. A physical dilemma but not a moral one.
