Good morning. We don't have much in the way of fall foliage yet, but I'm hopeful. October 22 is national Mother-in-Law Day. Are you a mother-in-law? Do you have a favorite memory of your mother-in-law? My MIL was quite talented. Among other things, she was an excellent tatter. She could make beautiful tatted lace very quickly and she made it look easy. This Mouseketeer and movie star was born on October 22, 1942. Do you know her name?

What a beautiful reflection picture that is, Emerald. A lot of our foliage started turning in early October, but we still have many green trees mixed in. Some trees are red, some are yellow, but so many leaves are already falling and making a mess. The winds we get this time of the year blow them everywhere - up onto the deck, the front walks and driveway, and into every single shrub bed. They also get slick when wet and are slippery to walk on. Not my favorite time of the year, but it beats the snow that will soon be here in New England.
Annette Funicello was a favorite of mine when I was a kid.

Pretty picture, Emerald!
Our trees are looking really pretty and this is the time of year that I am so thankful that I had my huge maple tree3 cut down. I couldn't handle the enormous amount of fallen leaves that it blessed me with.
Frost tonight, so I will be covering some of my flowers.

We arrived at the shredding event about 40 minutes early. Figured there would be a line. The truck showed up at 10:30 and we got rid of the stuff. Wasn't well organized but we were about the 8th car to go through the line. We think they started writing down what municipality people were from, but they didn't ask the first few cars. The event had no restrictions on it.
The Representative did cover part of our area, just not ours.

Why oh why is it always windy when it will frost that night? I had to go back out and re-attach the sheets over my hydrangeas. They bloomed late, but grew really big. So they took 2 sheets for covers.
A reminder....Kat's birthday was on the 20th, Friday. Just in case you want to stop by for some cake.

Annette Funicello. Beautiful and sweet as a young mouseketeer-- meeska mooska! --and did a lot of good work for MS (I think it was) when she was older and stricken. That was before celebrities had piled into causes like that personal to them.

Greetings from Marietta, Georgia (actually Kennesaw, but same area). A bit of an ordeal once I landed trying to find the train station (Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta is the busiest airport in the world), but finally got on the train, off at correct stop to catch bus that ended at the transfer station and my best friend of 20 years was waiting for me and finally met in person. Having a great time. Already have a lot to mail back (cheaper than checking in a bag). My only regret is not doing this earlier and hope I'm able to do it again next year.
Thanks for taking over the chat thread, Emerald, off to a great start!

Beautiful photos! When I was a kid living in Pennsylvania, I quit going to our parish church (which was really regressive and not very inspiring) and started going to the local Norbertine Abbey - they were farmer brothers who had a farm about a quarter mile from where we lived. I would walk by myself to church on Sunday, and in the fall it was just gorgeous, as their abbey was in a small valley surrounded by trees, and they would be brilliant in every colour. As I walked down the path and got near the abbey I would hear their great organ playing, the notes floating up into the clear air. It was so uplifting, and I wasn't even religious.
We have some lovely leaves here, but mostly evergreens, so the maples and elms stand out against the green pretty brightly. I'm looking toward November when my longest training runs for this marathon will be during our squall season, so I'll be sliding around on all those leaves and other wet mush.

Our Monday morning frost didn't do any damage to my uncovered flowers. So my covered hydrangeas and hibiscuses survived, also.
Now we will have at least 10 days of nicer weather. That's great since I do have a lot of cleaning up of veggie plants that are just about done producing.
Hopefully, I won't have to mow again, though. My tractor is on its last legs (wheels).

At this rate, Kritter, you won't be paying for pet supplies for the next 6 months Cloudy and we had a nice rainfall. Mid 70s I think. No bologna here, but my low sodium deli goodies have a name, it's Boars Head I got some of the low sodium roast beef, low sodium muenster cheese and the no salt added turkey so I could be lazy and make sandwiches the next few days. The antibiotics are still wiping me out and last thing I want to do is cook. Bleah. So I sprung for my idea of "comfort foods" I have some olive tapenade so I'm going to try and make a mock muffaletta. It should taste good even if it won't be the real thing

labbypaws - so beautiful and peaceful! How are your other pups (and other half) doing with the loss of Bunker? ((((Labby and Labby Family)))) It's steadily raining with snow coming down in the passes, so I guess our trips to the east side of the state are over until the thaw next spring.

We have woods behind our house and see deer in the back yard about once a week. The most we've seen at one time is five, but it's usually two and occasionally a fawn.

I have a view of a small dog park in the middle of lots of trees in a parking lot But it's a decent enough view, peaceful, and the cats love it. Last place I was at in Tampa had a view on the back of conservation land. Hootie loved watching all the critters there, especially the sandhill cranes. But no deer. Although I have seen a good bit of deer in the neighborhood around me, but not in my complex. It appears half Christmas trees are a big thing. It makes sense, you can hang them on the wall or put them flat against a wall on a floor stand and they take up half the space. Plus you only have to decorate the "front" LOL. The one I bought is too large for the living room but will work nicely in the office. So now I need the next size down for the living room. Who says you can't decorate for Christmas with cats? You do have to think it through though. Cloudy and chance of rain here, low 80s thru the weekend. Then a big cold front hits Monday and Kritter will probably go into hiberation. Do you have enough cupcakes, Kritter? Kidding aside, it might even be a bit too cold for me with this front.

It is going to be way too cold for this time of year or any time of year for me. The one possible bright spot for me is that my neighbor is making her very tasty chili. It is more of a tiny glimmer than a bright spot now that I think about it.

Oohhh. That's a good idea. I should make some chili Monday. I agree with you Kritter. Our forecast high of 45 on Monday is too cold for Halloween. That's more Christmas temps. The apartment complex is really cracking down on dog owners who refuse to pick up their dog poop. I just received an email asking all residents to snap a picture of any dog owner not cleaning up after their dogs poops, and to send the pic to the office. The office will be issuing $50 fines for every occurance. Lest you think that's harsh, the complex has a nice large fenced dog park, two smaller dog parks (not fenced) and provides poop bags in multiple areas all over the property. There is also a lot of green area on the outer perimeter of the entire property and several grassy courtyards between multiple buildings. There is NO reason for dog owners to walk in front of units and let their dogs piss by the front doors. The dog owner just has to walk on the other side of the driveway to have plenty of space for their dog that won't be by an entryway to other units. I always took my dog to the outer fringes and picked up after him, so I have NO sympathy for any dog owner here who gets hit with a penalty. I regularly see 3 dog owners just from my building who break the rules daily. I'm pretty sure they'll get snapped by my neighbors and reported What's really annoying is when those same three owners let their dogs piss and poop in front of the building...when there is a dog park about 2 car lengths away from where the dog is. Arrgggh.

Ugh to deer. They are cute, but... I have about a dozen who live across the road from me in the woods. I currently have 2 of them in my backyard. They all come around at night to try to eat all of my veggies and flowers. In the winter when there is snow on the ground, I can see deer tracks everywhere.
At least I don't have dog poop, unless there is a stray one running around. My road is too busy for people to walk their dogs.
It is still in the 70's here. That really helps since I have to cut down and remove most of my gardens.
I have been thinking of chili, too. But my freezer is full of other stuff. Somehow I got on Facebook groups for Aldi and now I have a huge new one by me. I keep reading about what to buy and how everyone likes the product. So, of course, I have to buy it.

Client gets notices his monthly sales tax returns haven't been filed for 3 months. I have copies showing confirmation of filing and payment. He calls the state, finds out the returns were filed on the wrong state tax #. Um, no. They were filed using the login HE gave me when he was a sole prop biz. He formed a LLC so he got a new state sales tax #. AND had to set up a new sale tax portal log in. And he didn't think his accountant needed to know that? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? **SMH**

labbypaws - I remember Jamie furry butt started slipping after Cassie died - she was never the same. They were siblings from the same litter and were often together. If there had been other cats in the pack as you have other dogs, I think she would have done better.
Speaking of cold - the temps here have suddenly started dropping below the usual - we have a lot of raw, wet weather, but usually not super cold (marine climate), but it's going down toward freezing tonight. I had slated a longish training run today but have a little headcold that I picked up from the DH, so decided just to go until I felt like I needed to stop. I planned my route from the county line north of me to a certain point south into Seattle. So, I'm cruising along, stuffed up and kind of achy but thinking "this is fine" until I get to the turn-around. Arrrggghhh! The cold wind that slapped me in the face! It had been a chilly quartering wind so no big deal when I started, but must have veered and then the temp dropped. So I'm chugging along but with my cold, the dropping temps and the wind and all, got pretty slow and then darkness fell. I was wearing no lights so cut it short and decided to just go home and have a better day another day. As I climbed into the car the DH texted me "How are you doing?" I think he got home from work, saw it was dark and realised I had not gotten home yet and began to wonder. Even after a hot shower I was still cold. I'm cold now wearing two pair of socks and a fleece top. Ugh - I'm going to have another six weeks of this until the marathon...where it will be 80+ degrees.

Hi, guys. Hope everyone is doing ok. I spent all last week prepping for a huge photo session; I wanted to have enough inventory photographed to get me past the Christmas holiday so I don't have to mess with it. I started at 8:30 Saturday morning and didn't finish till 6 pm. But I did have several breaks. Then Sunday I realized there were a few things I remembered buying but didn't photograph. I found a drawer in the laundry room that I overlooked I had about 8 things that I really wanted to get up before Christmas so I told myself I'd do sort of a mini photo session, not set up all the gear and dress forms. So I got everything photographed then promptly dropped my digital camera on the floor and broke it DH said the gears to the lens aren't lining up. It wouldn't be cost effective to fix it so I need to get a new one. Maybe I should wait till Black Friday? I was going to get an identical one to mine so I wouldn't have to learn a new one but I don't know if it's discontinued or what, but I paid $159 two years ago and now it's $374!!! No way. The only good thing is at least I got all my photos done first so I can take some time looking.
We have been pretty warm and breezy the last week or so. Some rain today and maybe tomorrow and they are saying much cooler Monday. It will be chilly for the trick-or-treaters on Tuesday but better than rain. We have a whole set up with a misting cauldron and a pipe and frozen water bottles to make the fog machine look like low rolling fog rather than a cloud.
My sister and I have decided to bury mom's ashes in my backyard. She had moms ashes put in these little urns so she and I and our kids and mom's sister could each have one, but apparently there was a lot left over. Mom didn't have anywhere special she would want them scattered, so we thought she always enjoyed coming here and it would be nice to have her nearby. No scattering because of Janey. We might do a little music and a poem or something. I'm sure we will cry again lol.
Well Val I agree with you completely! I ALWAYS pick up Janey's poo. I HATE it when I find dog cr*p in my yard! And I'm the one that mows, so it's usually on the bottom of my shoe, ugh. Someone hung signs around the neighborhood that they were doing a DNA thing and you have to register your dog and you will be fined for the poo and clean up costs. I googled it and it's a thing, but no way they can enforce that. I live in a HUGE neighborhood. But actually I even hate worse people who let their dogs off leash. People are so self entitled!

Obviously with 6 dogs we scoop twice a day. I do the AM and hubby does the PM. I have been getting out at 11:30 PM with a flashlight lately too. Just easier when it is still above 40 or so. Plus I have poop eaters so if we can get it up, it is easier. Ugh. I take a bum pack when I walk. Two water bottle holders and a decent sized compartment for poop bags and a flexible water bowl.
Chap, yes, please be safe out there. Sorry it was so cold and ugly out. I hate this time of year. Cold in the early morning, a bit warmer when the sun comes up, and removable layers if it is around 45 - 50 and sunny.
I have a NoxGear vest for darkness. I have one for the dogs too although I don't usually take them when it is dark out.

Our weather will soon turn cool, too. But I have most of my outside stuff done.

labbypaws - I have a reflective vest I'm going to start wearing if I think I'll be out late. This time of year it's easy to miss on estimates of when darkness falls because it gets dark earlier so quickly. Seems I get caught out at least once every fall. I was staying on the trail, but there's still a lot of trail traffic (a lot of commuters) so I like to be visible. Got my Covid shot today - cleared the calendar for the next couple of days just in case. I already have a cold so may as well take it easy for a bit anyway! jesmelric - that's a LONG danged photo session! I would have been dropping my camera and falling over sideways long before then - two hours is like my max. I'm glad you got your photos off the camera, though. My camera currently is a hand-me-down. I tried using my phone but it just doesn't do as good a job with product photography as a regular camera. It does great outdoor shots, though!

OOOhhhh National Potato Day! I can get into this day LOL. My favorite way is baked, with just butter or fully loaded and any stage between those two. Second favorite would be potato salad, although potatoes au gratin are really good too. No black cat here. The kitties and I will have a moment of silence in Toby's memory and then I guess I'll spoil the three that I have for a bit today. Off to get some blood work done. Then I have to swing by the pharmacy and figure out how to get the extra 4 days on one of my antibiotic Rx.
