Be sure to water the base of your flowers really well before the cold sets in, Denise. Sounds counterintuitive, but water in the soil acts as insulation. If course all bets are off if you get a hard freeze (8+ has at freezing or below freezing). But it definitely works if it's a typical cold front with frost or light freeze. I wouldn't mind a cold front hitting us The last two maintenance guys who came in my apartment and the property manager all loved my plants. Told them the plants are fake. They're like, "all of them?". Yup. I'm making a few plant changes when I pack up the Christmas decorations in January and hopefully the whole effect will look even more real. I blame Shirley. . Gotta admit, fake plants today are much better than in the past. I have a Boston fern I keep thinking I need to water.

When I first came around, they wouldn't go to the hairdresser without dad going too, same with dentist and grocery store. Wow. I can't even begin to imagine being that way I moved out as soon as I could, I was 20. I'd spent the year before that living in the dorms at the college. Never regretted moving out. I was 20 when I went to see a movie by myself. I wanted to see Star Wars but none of my girlfriends were into "sci fi" so I went by myself. I also remember thinking, "if I wait on people to go with me to do things, I'm going to miss out on a lot of things." I was 23 when I moved out of state on my own. But I didn't take my first solo vacation until I was 40 (after which I wondered "WTH did I wait so long to do this?"). Sunny a bit warm today, it's 92 right now. Ugh. But we're back in the low 80s/high 70s for the rest of the week. I was a lot on my own when I was 11, but started early doing things by myself, including traveling alone. I had friends but wasn't well adjusted socially and often just stayed on my own because I could never figure out what I was supposed to do or how to act, and there wasn't really anyone around to tell me what to do. Other times I did OK. I'm still somewhat like that though and not as lame as I used to be.

My first (and alone) cross-country air flight was when I was 5, from VA to AZ. I remember getting a wings pin from the pilot but not which airline it was. My first solo international flight was when I was 14. We were on Okinawa and my dad didn't retire for a few more months but school was about to start, so I was sent back to stay with my grandparents so I could start high school in September. The flight had a lot of returning military on it, and that community was good about looking out for its own, but still - no parents accompanied me. It was from Okinawa to Hawaii with a layover, then to San Fran or LA, I forget which. Then another flight to Mobile AL. Bleah. Loooooooong time on a plane.

Thanks Val. Never thought of that. But it has been raining for 4 days here. Will still add more, though.
