Good morning, everyone! Is it me or has this month just breezed through? Looks like fall is actually here on schedule with temps low 70s for highs and 50s at night. Looks like Ophelia, even as a tropical storm, did some bad flooding, especially in North Carolina. Hope that's soon completely back out to sea and the next system, Philippe, stays far out if it does turn into something. Very active hurricane season this year and thankfully, no major hurricanes, like Lee, made landfall in the US. Hope everyone has pleasant fall weather that lasts a long time.
I hate tree rats but gotta admit this is funny:

It was still raining this morning but finally stopped. Got the bed made and floor vacuumed early. Then the power went out for the second time so I went out for my walk.

I just have to show off my grandson, who played so well yesterday! He is THE QB!
Val-I don't mind posting this since my daughter has his pictures everywhere. But they don't show up on Google.

Fall? What's that? The mid 90's are forecast here for the next 10 days. Ugh. I don't care about cold, I'd be happy if we'd just get in to the 80s.

Hi guys. Count me in as one stuck in the hot and humid 60% chance of rain today. We got some this morning but no nearly enough and now the sun is out. Maybe some later if we are lucky. Hot or no we are going in the attic Saturday morning to get Halloween down.
We went to Kroger Saturday and got our flu shots. I asked about the Covid shot and they said they were out, and to try again mid week and see if they have gotten any more.
We went to a garage sale Saturday and got a HUGE box of vintage salt and pepper shakers for $2. Some are damaged, and probably most aren't worth a lot but there's several I am keeping and maybe a few worth selling. It was fun looking through them. Sunday we went to the bins. Averagely it takes me 4 hours to go through all the rows of bins. And one Advil lol. They weren't putting as many out fresh, DH overheard them say it was going "Slow" and we could see in the back there wasn't much stuff. Maybe waiting on a truck? Anyway once a month is enough for me. It's a lot of work and usually TONS of crying kids, which I could also tolerate a lot better when I was younger. Then when we got home and took a nap
Wow Denise!! What a looker your grandson is!!! GEEZ!!!!!

Congrats on the S&P find, jes. Some of those shaker sets are really fun.
It appears AMZ is about to lose yet another order of mine. It was due today but now it's bouncing around San Antonio. *sigh* I don't know if it's incompetence, theft, or passive-agressive employees rebelling against management but at least one distribution center here in SA has serious problems. I have another order due today, it was one of those "order by X get same day delivery", so I took the offer (no fee to me). That one appears to be stuck as well. I won't hesitate to cancel both of these orders if I have to and order a similar item from Etsy, and the other item from Michaels. It's 96 here right now but the humidity is reasonably low. It could be worse.

Fall is only a myth. It was frigging 96 degrees here today!
And it's supposed to be in the 90s all week.

Yay! My same day delivery AMZ order decided it wanted to come to my house after all I just finished making a batch of no salt added dry onion soup mix. It smells like the real thing. The test will be tomorrow, when it gets added to the mock pot roast with mushroom gravy in the slow cooker. It's "mock pot roast" because it's not a roast cut, but another equally inexpensive cut of beef. I did find a low sodium onion soup mix, but it had MSG in it so I decided to try the homemade recipe first. I have no salt added ranch dressing mix coming in tomorrow (fingers crossed LOL). That one does not have MSG. I hope the two mixes work because there are a lot of "comfort" food recipes out there that call for the mixes. BTW -the no salt added cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soups are great for slow cooker use.

I hope you're writing down all your recipes, Val, along with notes what doesn't work and why. If you get enough together, you should print a book. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to have good tasting no/low salt recipes. Happy you actually got your same day delivery. I ordered an item through Amazon from seller who dropped at P.O. same day in Buffalo. Arrived in Cleveland next day. I should have had it the next day. Next update was it arrived at P.O. nowhere near me. Next update 3 days later it arrived back at Cleveland. This morning, finally shows out for delivery. So, took 1 day to go the 4 hour drive from Buffalo to Cleveland and 4 days to finally deliver when it was around 40 minutes away.
Update: Yay, package delivered today. I also ordered pack of 5 Lutema masks for trip to GA next month. I'll feel a lot safer with a high efficiency mask on my flights. Thanks, Val, for the discount code!

The mock roast is smelling REALLY good. I combined two online recipes and kept notes. If it tastes as good as it smells, I'll type up my own recipe. The homemade no salt onion soup mix smells like the real thing, at least in the container and while cooking. If anyone wants to try the soup mix: www.thecountrycook.net/homemade-dry-onion-soup-mix/I made it to use in the slow cooker or make dip with it. I have no idea what it tastes like when made as onion soup. There are lots of recipes out there that use canned cream of mushroom soup (or chicken) and onion soup mix, so I was happy to find the recipe. Using regular canned soup+regular onion mix, 4 servings=1532 mg sodium per serving Using healthy request canned soup+regular onion mix, 4 servings=970 mg per serving Using healthy request canned soup+no salt onion mix, 4 servings=513 mg per serving Using no salt canned soup+no salt onion mix, 4 servings=63 mg per serving The rest of the ingredients add minimal sodium (fresh veggies, beef). The same day delivery made it last night. The poster frames are very nice and look good with my black cat mid-century prints. The rug I ordered that got lost did arrive a few minutes ago. Unfortunately it won't work and I'll have to return. I'm curious to see where AMZ is going to make me take it. I ordered some no salt ranch dressing mix but since that's a small item I opted for locker delivery. It's the small packages they tend to lose. Partly cloudy and low to mid-90s for the next 10 days. Oh well. It's better than 100+ degrees

Woo hoo! I'm getting a pantry in my apartment. The office sent me the renewal info, and if I renewed by 9/30, I could pick two things from their incentive list. Since they were offering me a ceiling fan in the living room (a big ticket item) and my unit already had the other stuff on the list, I asked for something my next door neighbors got. The office installed the nice, heavy duty wire shelving in their entryway coat closet and they use it as a pantry. The office said OK. I'm using the closet now as a pantry but with a narrow wire shelf unit so the deeper heavier shelves will be nice. Yay! I opted for the 14 month lease so if I move after it's up, I'll be moving in February which is a much better time to move than between Thanksgiving and Christmas One more thing off my to do list. Tomorrow I need to schedule all the stupid tests my PCP wants me to get (you know, the usual old fart, now you're on Medicare so it's free, tests). That will shorten the list even more The mock pot roast came out REALLY good.

Val-Wow! A pantry with shelves for your oils!!!
I hope that your tests are more fun than mine. I had a PET scan today. They inject a radioactive glucose solution into the veins. Then I have to sit completely still for an hour (but I did stuff on my cell phone). Then 20 minutes in the scanner. Now I feel crappy from the radioactive junk.
Now I have to wait to see if the spider-like mass in my right lung is cancer or not. I hate spiders. In either case, my onc wants to do a lung biopsy. Geesh. I would question a biopsy if it doesn't look like cancer. If it is, it will glow and have an SUV score number as to the intensity.

Val-Wow! A pantry with shelves for your oils!!! Nope. For canned goods. The oils and vinegars have their own special place on the counter top, on lazy susans. I use them too often to walk to the hallway every time I need a bottle of something Looks like TS Phillipe is going to fizzle out to just a big rainstorm.

Yay me.

((Denise)) I am sorry to hear that. I am keeping you in my prayers and hope the biopsy and treatment won't be too bad.
We are getting the same story from our local weather "about 10 days before a pattern change". Well since they've been saying that since the beginning of July that is very hard to believe. Oct will start just as hot Sept has been. Which is apparently the hottest on record here. It feels like we will never get any relief.
I did some yard work yesterday and will mow tomorrow so I can get my Halloween out on Saturday. Well, I'll mow what's left of the yard lol. At this point we are basically just trying to keep the trees alive. Yesterday I pulled up 4 azaleas that died, one I'd had for years, and three I planted in the spring. And my roses which I'd had over a decade. Sigh.
I got a call yesterday afternoon, a focus group was looking for a last minute fill in, and I qualified. An hour and a half on line, and they pay well. So that was a nice surprise. And we got the notice from DH's job for open enrollment in Oct. And shockingly the premiums are not going up. Now THAT was a really nice surprise

I think I've placed my last order with Woman Within and their sister companies. I ordered fall stuff and Most of it is being returned. One top, ordered 4 colors. Two fit, the other two were mistagged and about 2 sizes larger. Ordered another style in 2 colors, one arrived damaged. Ordered several colors of a tunic advertised as 28" length - the ones I received were 32" length. Same thing with 2 Catherines tees - advertised as 30", what I received was 34". So I paid $71.94 that I won't get refunded, between their insane outbound shipping and their equally insane return fee. It's annoying because the returns are due to their mistakes, not because I didn't like the tops. I kept the ones that were tagged correctly, advertised correctly and not damaged. Oh well. I've already closed one of their credit cards. Once these returns process, I'm closing the other cards. Their shipping would be a lot less if they would stop including over a pound of catalogs and flyers. Not to mention what they would save in printing costs. Good thing Kohls, Macys and Belk are still consistent in their sizing and quality. Another warm day, partly cloudy, humid and 95. I remind myself at least it's not 100+, and that my power bill isn't that bad when temps are in the 90s. Maybe I'll just haul out the fall clothes anyway, turn the A/C down and spray some pumpkin air freshener so I can fool myself it's fall Although all my "fall" clothes are just 3/4 sleeve tees in fall colors instead of short sleeve tees in summer colors. We're not talking coat-cold fall down here

I don't like fall colors so I wear my summer clothes until it gets too cold and then I switch to winter clothes. I dress by temperature instead of by season.

My fall and winter clothes (for here anyway) is pretty much the same clothing LOL. We don't get cold enough for me to pull out my real winter stuff. Or if we do, it's for maybe a week at the most. Thunderstorm moving in, although it's not bringing any rain yet. Just clouds and a lot of rumbling.

If you opt for store credit on an e-card, they'll waive the return fee. I want to pay the credit cards off and close them so I went for the refund option instead. Plus, their inconsistencies in sizing are getting so bad I doubt I even want to order anything else, even with a store credit. On the bright note, all I have to do is bring my return code and the items to a "Happy Returns" location - no bagging needed. I have to pick up an order at World Market and I noticed that they are a Happy Returns location. I can kill two birds with one stop It's not all bad. I've goofed off today but it's back to the grindstone tomorrow. At least I got the info I needed after a zoom call with a client of ours, so I can do their amended tax return and then catch the 2023 bookkeeping up. Guess my goof off day wasn't a total waste The cats are all in the office here with me right now. I can't decide if it's because they really like me, or if they all want to be together because of the thunder. Works for me regardless of their reasoning.

Thanks ladies....waiting to hear from my onc. My nurse practitioner wants me to just get a CT scan in 8 weeks to see if the spot has grown or has a higher SUV. She said that an SUV of 5 is panic time, and I am "only" at 4.9. Sounds good to me, but my onc. did want a biopsy.
We will see....
It has been pretty nice here with the exception of the one day when I did turn on my furnace since my house was 65. Otherwise, it has been in the low 70's during the day and 50's at night. At least my electric bill should be lower since I haven't used my A/C for a couple of weeks.
And next week it is supposed to be in the 80's again. Weird weather.
