If you get a text supposedly from USPS (it may read US Postal or USPostal) that says your package arrived at the transit center but can't be delivered due to missing address details, it's fake. It will ask for "updated address" info and then ask for a credit card to pay the redelivery fee ($1.95 to $3.00, varies). Then they have your CC info I almost fell for one this morning but remembered in time that a) USPS doesn't charge to redeliver, and b) the postal worker would have just dropped off my package at the office if the apartment # had actually been missing. www.uspis.gov/news/scam-article/smishing-package-tracking-text-scamsA similar scam is also coming in via text purporting to be from FedEx, UPS, and even Amazon.

I almost fell for this too but with Fed Ex, but by email. They wanted me to click the tracking. The return address was very legitimate looking, usually it's some crazy string of names on the email sender on fake emails. I had several packages coming and thought maybe the shipping label had gotten damaged or something. Went to check all my orders and saw that none seemed to be having a problem and figured to just let it sit for a few days to see if any problems. Everything was delivered on schedule. I marked the email as SPAM and deleted it. But it looked real.

I got the text this morning. I had a package due for delivery from USPS but I thought it had been delivered yesterday afternoon (haven't gone to my mail box yet). I clicked the link, grumbled, filled in my address and then said "wait a minute, USPS does not charge for redelivery" and went to Etsy to confirm the delivery. That's when I googled it. It looks fairly real, at least in the text version.

Thanks Val. Actually, those scams have slowed down for me. But maybe I will be hit with them soon. I just deleted a fake Amazon scam.

I think I got a usps one a few weeks ago. Said there was an issue with delivery and to follow the link for more info. I only had one package out so I went to ebay and checked tracking. Didn't see anything flagged so I waited and it was delivered the next day.
